Why does everyone always hate on Ellen for the tea scene where Freya pours tea on herself and Ellen believes Freya?

I love Ruby, but Freya is Ellen's childhood friend y'all 😭😭 why would she believe the woman she's known for less than a year (I haven't reread it in a while I don't remember exactly how long it has been but less than a year, right?) over her CHILDHOOD FRIEND. Wtf
