Happy Birthday Leonard Bernstein! I couldn't let this great conductor/composer/educator's birthday go without a mention. Here he is conducting Baritone Thomas Hampson in Mahler's Ruckert-lieder. I really don't think anyone will match Bernstein in interpreting Mahler. 1990 with the Wiener Philharmoniker.
I'm really torn up about Baritone and unparalleled lieder interpreter Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau's death this morning. So I'll be featuring him today and possibly tomorrow as well. Here he is singing Mahler's 'Ich Bin Der Welt' from the Ruckert-Lieder.
Rest in peace, you beautiful artist. And thank you.
