After these bass drum variations we looked at two very different styles of fills. The first was based on the single stroke rudiment, a straight roll round each drum on the kit. This is what I would call a classic “moving from one section to another” style of fill. The second fill was based on the paradiddle and was played between the snare drum the hi-hat and the bass drum, eventually involving the hi hat played with the foot as well. I realised that this kind of fill was much more subtle and over the years stripping back fills so they were not so obvious became much more of a thing with me. Finally, it was nice to have the rudiments applied to the drum set as fills and rhythmic fills.
