In his human form Eli might have taken offense to that, possibly glared down the stranger or cussed them out.

As it was he happened to be a dog at the moment. He happily chased down the stick, snapping it up in his jaws and bending down into a play pose. He wasn’t about to actually return it, though. Maybe if he held onto it they would toss over another and he’d have a pair of drumsticks to keep.
