Starting its life early in the 90s as the caliber used in both the FN P90 and its close companion the FN FiveseveN, the 5.7x28mm cartridge has gone almost nowhere only being used in a handful of firearms. Ruger aims to change that today with the release of their new Ruger-57 pistol.
I’ve never been a big 5.7 fanboy but I’m slightly excited for this (or as excited as I can be for something I likely won’t be able to own because it won’t be on the CA roster). I like the idea of having more 5.7 guns available because it is an interesting round and I love shooting my friend’s FN Five-seveN - more guns means we’ll probably see more ammo being manufactured and thus lower prices. MSRP of $800 means you’ll probably see them for $650-700 once the initial hype dies down, which is a damn good price compared to the FN going for over $1000.
