Angst! My favourite genre! I'm back again with some Deadman/Sam shipping 😊😂 How about Deadman saying "we need to get you warm" about/to Sam. You're the best babe😘😘
@ruinerofcheese Aw pumpkin, you know I’m always down for writing about them two! Hope you like this one 💙
“Sam?” Deadman’s eyes shot up and down the porter’s body. He watched as Sam calmly lowered himself to the ground, his back against a boulder to support himself. Sam took in a sigh of relief while he rested his eyes. Deadman swallowed, ignoring the fact he was soaked from head to toe due to falling in the river nearby because of a BT swarm. Being what he was, Deadman couldn’t feel the cold. Not like his companion, the person that had grown on him the most.
Sam steadied his breathing, his body scrunched together to keep warm. He could feel his blood pressure dropping, heartbeat hitting a dull tune. The shuddering from his own flesh made him wince. The body of water that dragged himself and Deadman down the current had been cold given that they were close to Mountain Knot, and hypothermia was bound to set in. Nonetheless, he was in a state of mind where he didn’t care. It wasn’t his first rodeo, unlike Deadman who hardly ventured out into the world.
“Sam, we need to get you warm.” Deadman urged, his voice picking up in tone to keep him awake. He furrowed his brows, watching as Sam coughed up water.
“I’ll be fine. Just glad the BT’s didn’t get you.” Sam said, trying to reassure him. “Just need some rest is all.”
Deadman sighed, shaking his head as he crouched down at Sam’s side, hesitating before he rests a hand on Sam’s right leg. He watched as Sam’s gaze traveled, feeling him visibly tense from the touch but there was a look in Sam’s eyes that told Deadman that he was alright with it despite his body protesting.
“Please, you went through so much to save my life. Let me get you to a shelter. There’s no way we can make it back to Mountain Knot before sunset.” Deadman gestured to the horizon line in the distance, watching as Sam’s eyes looked outward before Deadman captured his attention once again.
“It was my fault that BT’s were summoned into the area. My invention backfired and it nearly cost me losing you---please, let me be of help.” Deadman pleaded, his features morose as Sam quietly grunted, giving a nod. Deadman was quick to help Sam onto his feet, allowing Sam to use him as a crutch while they set off looking for someplace to take cover for the night. The BTs were back on the beach, but it wasn’t safe to be out. Not with a MULE camp lurking on the other side of the pass to Mountain Knot, more than likely attracted to what transpired earlier on.
The two found a Bridges safe house several miles away, and Deadman was quick to find blankets and other articles of clothing that could keep Sam warm. He took great care to bundle Sam up on the only bed, making sure he was comfortable and that the cooling system of the facility didn’t reach high levels.
Sam stayed put, allowing Deadman to go about taking care of him. He wasn’t used to this sort of thing. It dawned on him how much Deadman had cared. Even after all these years of being away from Bridges and the UCA, even with just Lou and himself, Sam understood that he still mattered in this old world. He couldn’t say the same for Fragile, Heartman, or the others but Deadman was there. He always was.
“Yes, Sam?” Deadman spun around while he was tending to another fresh blanket, worry crossing his face as Sam faintly smiled, giving him a thumbs-up before resting his eyes.
Deadman’s smile formed into a grin as he felt his face blush a smidge. It had been years since he had seen Sam smile. Despite his mistakes, and nearly getting them both killed, Deadman felt proud of himself. He accomplished something most people couldn’t.
