If I control Rules Lawyer and March of the Machines, can I have equipment that are creatures attached to other creatures? Or is there a rule of attaching cards that's not a state-based effect that prevents that?
No, equipment that’s also a creature can’t become attached to another creature.
Rules Lawyer will let the equipment that’s currently equipped remain attached when March of the Machines enters the battlefield, but after that point no further attaching in possible.
