Of Means and Ends - Saul Alinsky

Of Means and Ends:

1) One’s Concern with the ethics of means and ends varies inversely with one’s personal interest in the issue. 2) The judgement of the ethics of means is dependent upon the political position of those sitting in judgment. 3) In war the end justifies almost any means. 4) Judgment must be made in the context of the times in which the action occurred and not from any other chronological vantage point. 5) Concern with ethics increases with the number of means available and vice versa. 6) The less important the end to be desired, the more one can afford to engage in ethical evaluations of means. 7) Generally, success or failure is a mighty determinant of ethics.  - There can be no such thing as a successful traitor, for if one succeeds he becomes a founding father. 8) The morality of a means depends upon whether the means is being employed at a time of imminent defeat or imminent victory. 9) Any effective means is automatically judged by the opposition as being unethical. 10) You do what you can with what you have and clothe it with moral garments.

Obama and his Saul Alinsky alignment

I've been musing over Obama's alignment to Saul Alinksy. In “Rules for Radicals,” consider Alinsky’s words of wisdom for emerging community organizers: “[You must help]  the people in the community…feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and chance the future. [An] organizer must shake up the prevailing patterns of their lives–agitate, create disenchantment and discontent with the current values, to produce, if not a passion for change, at least a passive, affirmative, non-challenging climate. [You must] fan the embers of hopelessness into a flame of fight.” These are the kinds of things Obama was reading when he poured through the pages of “Rules for Radicals,” and these are the kinds of things he would have been taught by the community organizers who trained him. And what have Obama’s tactics as President been to this point, if not tactics of playing one class against another to raise levels of frustration and of creating the very disenchantment about which Alinsky wrote, in order to nurture a passion for change? Barack Obama is an Alinskyite. Trained by Alinsky's Industrial Areas Foundation, Obama spent years teaching workshops on the Alinsky method. In 1985 he began a four-year stint as a community organizer in Chicago, working for an Alinskyite group called the Developing Communities Project. Later, he worked with ACORN and its offshoot Project Vote , both creations of the Alinsky network. Obama sat on the Woods Fund Board with William Ayers, the founder of the, “Weather Underground,” a domestic terrorist organization. Barack Obama has an Alinskyite background- this tells us unequivocally that he is a leftist, dedicated to overthrowing our Constitutional system- and secondly, he will go to any length to conceal his radicalism from the public.  That is the Alinsky method, and that is today’s Democratic party!
