So does that mean in a crackpot happening that all the Baratheon men and Targaryens just disappeared and a legitimate daughter/niece/sister/cousin whatever with no sons, of age, became queen she could marry a Tyrell, Martell, Stark, hightower, lannister ect. And they wouldn’t be able to dominate or contest her power? If Jon Arryn was her hand and they had a good realthionship, would that set up her power well? So she couldn’t have a Mary Stuart situation?
I didn’t say that. What I said was that the usurpation of power due to the spouse acting in the military sphere as mentioned in the original question isn’t a sure thing, and gave examples of when the position of Protector of the Realm was separate from the king to show that it wouldn’t be the case.
If the ruling queen’s spouse was looking to usurp power and become a de facto acting king, they’d have to do more than that. They can’t directly contend with the monarch, because the powers of the monarch are exclusively reserved for the monarch as the highest authority and any ruling queen would know that and use that if she suspected someone to be infringing on her exclusive domain as monarch. Someone who attempts to do it might run afoul of treason laws, after all, defying the monarch directly isn’t always the healthiest course of action for long-term welfare.
But, people are people and an ambitious consort might try to sideline his wife with a variety of social techniques. That’s quite similar to other types of factional warfare and so I would imagine it would be similar. The ruling queen would be wise to ensure that she has a strong information network, loyal councilors on her side (the Hand being the obvious best choice, since a Hand’s hard power is second only to the monarch), and pays close attention if she’s suspicious of anything.
Thanks for the question, Anon.

Wouldn’t a queens husband usurp her power? If he’s from a LP? And he’s doung the military stuff
Why? Daemon the Rogue Prince was Protector of the Realm but Rhaenyra still held herself as a ruling queen and made decrees. Aemond One-Eye was Protector of the Realm for the heavily-injured (and MIA) Aegon II but was not a ruling king.
