The salmon swim from the Bay Area to the Shasta Mt., making the river itself whole. I've trekked alongside caretakers of this river for the month of September. I've learned that this River has been pulled into fracking and diversion-- something I recognize has happened to our own Colorado River. I've also witnessed how the CA River has been pulled into industrial agriculture-- mirroring the pesticides that communities are sprinkled in and live in, also mirroring the reality that borders segregate the concept of water, peoples, and our struggles that are one in the same. I've also watched the waters ripple and mirror this confusion, as I myself try to hear beyond the mass scale industry-- a constant of petrochemicals-- that I ran pell mell into as I crossed into rivers. But, I also saw a salmon arc from the Sacramento River, reminding me that a pulse is a matter of movement and holding more hope than fear.
