First EVVYs rundown done!
Does this make me a real P.Sup? It sure felt like some sort of initiation process. Let's just say that Excel and I aren't quite friends yet.
But this vocal showcase is going to be AWESOME.
It's an open platform for video in/out which also includes a design tool that the layman (supposedly) can use.
For geeks, it's basically a portable computery-box with the jacks and processing power to coordinate:MIDI, DMX512, OSC, Video I/O, and digital (on-off) I/O -- as well as some custom open-source software to use it.
We'll assume that most people who want a dedicated portable machine with these features would buy a Netbook. Cost rundown: MIDI USB $50 DMX USB $150 Video Capture $50 Software $ ?? ------------------------------ total: $450 + whatever for software Additional features of the netbook include WIFI (+$50 for access point with the MM), a built-in display (which could be useful for debugging), and a "normal" OS (if you consider that a feature).Netbooks don't have the integrated software or an FPGA (with tons of example patches!), though they do often have GPUs.
Final analysis: Useful if you're a VJ who wants to use an open platform and free software to design shows or a hobby artist who wants to play with a souped-up Arduino that includes and FPGA, Video I/O, MIDI, and DMX512. Everyone else should probably stick with their computers.
Since this blog is called 'Rambling Rundown' I figured I'd ramble about rundowns. I love rundowns. Like, a lot. I can be very OCD sometimes and they're so organized and dependable. Every new EVVYs rundown draft that gets sent out gets me really excited for May 14th. It's literally a blueprint of everyone's hard work in neat little squares.
I'm blogging about rundowns in the middle of the night. I think this qualifies me to Production Supervise EVVYs 31. (...pretty please?) Or it qualifies me as a TV nerd. Either way, I'm rather lame.
