Body finds comfort in the warmth of baggy sweats and a fitted t-shirt. He’s got the day off, one that he normally spends out and about in the vast city, the beautiful town that he’s called home for so many years. Yet, today, he’d rather be in the comfort of the walls of their house. He’d rather cook his own meals and spend time lounging on the couch, watching terrible television and half-way paying attention to what’s being said. None of it mattered, in reality. There was only one reason he wanted to stay in the comforts of his own home and that was the man just emerging from behind a closed door. Bellamy sits forward on the couch, elbows resting upon bent knees and hazelnut gaze drifts upwards towards the other male, a soft smile sprawling across worn lips, bringing a brightness to bronze features. “Morning. What do you want for breakfast? I’m cooking.”

“Hey.” A gentle voice betrays a hardened exterior.  When he stopped by the antique shop to visit all he’d really been expecting were dog jokes and terrible puns.  Maxine, after all, loved to drown others in humor in order to detract from her own pain.  Sometimes it worked.  On very rare occasion Hale even smiled because, admittedly, some of them could be funny.

On this particular occasion, however, something happened.  When he started pursuing her for her visions Hale honestly had no idea how it worked.  All he wanted - cared about - was the potential for leverage and power over Magnus’s control in the city.  Little did he know, or anticipate, that under the annoying exterior Maxine was someone he could see spending time around.

Raising a hand, Hale cups her cheek.  Were she a wolf he’d have an easier time helping her to calm down.

“Breathe,” he coaxes.  "You’re stronger than you give yourself credit for.  Always have been.“

Sometimes, Max really hated her visions. It wasn’t just the fact that they were difficult to describe to regular people, that she’d had a terrible time keeping friends because of them, that she saw death and destruction on a daily basis. She could handle all that. She’d been handling it her entire life. Sometimes, though---very rarely---she didn’t just see things.

She felt them.

Bad things were coming, things that Max wasn’t sure she would survive. The vision had left her visibly shaken and gasping for air, a phantom pain in her chest that made it difficult to breathe. She had barely begun to recover from it when the door opened. She hadn’t actually meant to say anything, the words just came tumbling out. Hale’s reaction was even more unexpected.

At first, she flinched away from the touch, not expecting him to be as gentle as he was. It was strange, he actually seemed like he was trying to help her. She shook her head, hands balling into fists on top of the counter she sat behind. “I’m really not,” she laughed humorlessly. “Don’t know why on earth you’d think that. I’m not strong, I’m scared.” She really shouldn’t be telling him this, but once she’d started, the words kept on pouring out.

“I’m terrified, like, all the time. I have visions and I don’t even know how they work or why I have them. I’m human. I’m human and I’m constantly surrounded by people that could literally break me in half or drain all my blood or make me fucking explode with a snap of their fingers, if they wanted. Hell, I’m in charge of some of the people that can do that. It feels like I’m tiptoeing on glass twenty-four-seven, but I can’t act like it, because if I look weak for a fucking second...” It was pretty obvious how that would end, wasn’t it?

Aurora smiled widely as she approached the front of the line.  “Perhaps you could use some company?”  she touched the stranger’s arm and grinned broadly.  Mostly, Aurora just wanted someone to share a table with as she had coffee and the stranger was the one fortunate enough to be at the front of the line into Cafe du Monde.

I dreamt about loving you for so long that I convinced myself it could only be that: a dream. But then I found you pulling me in closer and I still don't know if it'll stay true. I'm confused. You want me. You really want me. I can't accept that it's true. I hate that I can't accept it. Because I need to. Because I need you. I need you. Every single atom of my complexity needs you.      I’ve honestly never had anyone to write to and, I guess, I’m assuming a lot by writing this in the first place.  It’s been a dance.  We’ve been a dance.  Part of me wants to be free with my words just in case this letter never gets to you or I never see you again.  Then again, part of me wants to look to a more positive future.  It’s a hard decision to make wen I feel nothing at all.  No fear.  No excitement.  There’s nothing in me right now but the mission I carry and the rifle I’m supposed to do survive with.  You’re to thank for that, aren’t you?

Sometimes I forget there’s more like me.  Spending time in a concrete box can do that to you, I guess.  

    Right now I’m sitting on the Normandy coast thanks to your expert piloting skills.  This is better than the landing in Sicily, where I lost parts of my unit to the winds and sea.  I was honestly hoping to never repeat that experience.  It may not be in me right now but I remember the way my stomach sunk into the sand like it was being yanked from the other side of the world.  

At least now I have something to look forward to.  Your face is on the other side of this battlefield.
