Jean does not have the luxury for his head to spin. He's been violently corralling his attention to the present since the moment he realized Kevin wasn't coming back — the moment he had met Riko's eyes and known, deep in the marrow of his bones, that something fundamental had shattered.

An hour, he'd asked for, just distract him for an hour.

Because he knew that Jean would. For him ? Anything.

So, no, Jean is certainly not a victim. He is a Moreau; this is precisely what he deserves. This is what he was born for, raised for, lives for, and will most likely die for: to serve the Moriyamas, all until the bitter end. Everything he has endured he has walked into willingly — whether it's his poor performance on the court, or the way his eyes instinctually wandered, or unknowingly lying long enough for Kevin Day to disappear from the Nest.

"AngeeeEEEELLLLLLL!!!" Valentino barks to summon the sinner, where ever he was within the tower. Just in case his voice didn't carry, Val flipped open his phone open and sent out a quick text with one hand, his others digging through his closet. Tonight was already off to a bad start ; his favorite pair of fishnets tore and it seems he's somehow absent another pair. He didn't NEED them but he felt a whole different kind of naked not having them. The uncomfortable kind. The kind that made his skin crawl and something just felt wrong. Besides he didn't want to wear pants today - not when his hot new little black dress was just begging to be taken out for a spin.

"Amorcito, you're crafty, aren't you? Daddy needs a repair. The faster this is situated, the faster we can leave."

There's a moment of stillness as William stops. He'd been angry before, sure, but there's a shift at Michael's words. However, the stillness is quickly broken by William letting out a chuckle. And he hits his palm against the wall William had been near as he starts moving towards Michael. Not putting a hand on him yet, but a clear intrusion into Michael's personal space. "Don't you ever swear at me, Michael."

"Any other parent would have thrown you out on the street a long time ago. There are some fathers who would have pressed charges against their own sons for doing what you did. I have been far more generous to you than I could have been at every step of the way and I will not stand here and let you talk to me like an ungrateful little brat."

“I’m not fucking apologising for anything.”

Sure, maybe she had been the problem in the exact scenario for which Vox was now asking her to apologise for; but she wasn’t about to cower like one of his fucking employees to beg at his feet for forgiveness for a totally valid reaction at the Overlord meeting that she shouldn’t have even attended and, sure, perhaps she’d been overly and particularly harsh and now Vox expected her to agree that she’d overreacted?

Fat chance.

The other Overlords had been the problem, and their misconstrued logic. Velvette had made good points, and had called out the ridiculousness. Perhaps her approach had been a little aggressive, but an apology to Vox wasn’t going to change that now.

“Don’t argue with me as well when I only pointed out how stupidly blind they all are. The room agreed. Those two,” she grits her teeth at the thought of Carmilla specifically, but forces herself to go on. “Carmilla and the old bastard who sips his tea obnoxiously as fuck. They’re so far up their own arses, and no one else seems to realise it. Or, even if they do, no one wants to say it.”

There’s something frustrating about how Vox demands an apology for something that he probably would also agree with. Her reaction had been a little spiteful, she supposes, but had she done something else to warrant him being so angry at her? These days, it felt like Vox was almost as bad as Valentino was when seeking apologies or explanations.

Velvette clenched her fists and stepped away from him, narrowing her eyes.

“Don’t try to intimidate me into apologising either. You know I’m right.”

❛ do you ever think before you do anything? do you have a brain to think with? ❜ vox exclaims, raising his voice. here he is, cleaning up yet another one of valentino's messes. accident or not, he is tired of it. if val wants to go around shooting people, he should be shooting their own workers, not going around shooting random people on the street. while he typically wouldn't care, the people he'd killed belonged to a client of vox's, one survivor who had recognised the hard - to - miss moth sinner. now vo was having to compensate them for the losses.

❛ if you have a problem, come to me first. i can find you a solution, you can't just fucking rampage at whoever you want! this is going to cost us thousands of dollars to fix, do you know that? this puts a bad spot on my reputation, both of our reputations. how do you expect me to work like that? where are the clients going to come from if they're all convinced you're going to willfully shoot their people? nitwit! ❜

The sketchpad of potential designs had been long since set aside, William's attention firmly settled on Henry as they talked. Sat all too close to Henry and now turned to face him, one leg tucked under the other, elbow on the back of the sofa, cheek rested on arm. Genuinely casual, even as conversation died down. Right up until Henry spoke again. It wasn't easy to catch William off guard, but Henry had managed it. It took a couple of seconds to register. Then, simply: "Oh." William usually pegged himself as the one to pull a comment like that—smoother, of course, but still the case nonetheless. But now—

A faint smile curved his lips—honest reaction that he couldn't have held back had he wanted to. . . which he didn't. There were a million words hanging on the tip of his tongue, from jokes to flirtations. But he needed to keep it together, walk the fine line. He couldn't lose the moment. ( His heart was hammering in his chest—something rare. ) His fingers twitched in his lap, a moment of hesitation before reaching out. He brushed a strand of hair from Henry's face, breath caught in throat. So close to what he had wanted desperately for far too long, yet worried the chance could shatter with one wrong move. "I actually take that as quite the compliment." A pause, some vague hand gesture toward Henry. Considering how beautiful Henry was, he meant. His usual confidence in flirting was wavering, a small, clearly self-focused huff leaving him. Focus, Will. Change of pace: "But either kiss me or stop flirting. I don't enjoy being led on." And here his smile turned crooked, more a smirk than anything. "I mean it, Henry. Kiss me."
