I'm really looking forward to sitting down and journaling to try to better understand the chaos of thoughts and emotions I've been having recently. I don't journal consistently but I think a goal of mine for 2020 is to sit down at least biweekly and really "talk to myself" via journaling to better understand what I'm feeling. I have worked this past year to not brush my thoughts and feelings aside even if they're scary because you find the most closure/comfort in understanding the driver behind your feelings and thoughts. The "emotions behind the emotions"; the "thoughts behind the thoughts" are what I need to confront rather than how they manifest through anxiety. I view journaling as way to better understand yourself by debunking your own thoughts. Really when I was going to regular therapy sessions to learn to cope with my anxiety I had journaling homework where in moments where I found myself being anxious I was to journal everything about the situation and essentially critically analyse my thoughts in an effort to realize the irrationality of my anxiety and find comfort in reality rather than ruminating. Really you cannot so simply stop anxiety by just imposing rationality on the irrational thoughts, but it was a good exercise for better understanding your own thoughts and does bring me a lot of peace in really understanding my true drivers.
