moscow fashion week: rusiko
(images via intermoda)
so it's only day one, and i'm already devastated that i've let the site go so far i'm now unable to spend all the time i please analyzing what we now see before us, especially considering when faced with designs as delightful as the rusiko a/w 2012 range presented at russia's moscow fashion week.
according to the poison magazine, the label is designed by one rusudan kobyakovo (Русудан Кобяковой) and the fall range was (trans.) "dedicated to the Western interpretation of the Muslim image, rich in bright scenes." to this, the russian site fotki added that (trans.) "(t)he most brilliant colors, the low waisted silhouettes, oriental decorations, accessories and variations on the classic turban - all this with a picture of a bizarre eclectic female character, the spirit of the east, a performance of the west," was on display.
meanwhile, ria moda had some nice additional information coming from the house's press release, while russian site intermoda reflected that the designer appeared to be trying to fuse his own culture with something more wearable for everyone, a concept we've seen again and again in fashion to varying degrees of effectiveness--though rarely, i'd say, so successful as rusiko's breathtaking display.
in the end, though i'll be frank and admit that some pieces probably ranged towards the costume-y, there was plenty that was modern and wearable here, but with an intriguing cultural inflection that made otherwise basic-but-pretty maxidresses that much more alluring.
