One American and Two Russians Embark on Mission to the International Space Station
On Friday, an international crew comprising one American and two Russian space members embarked on a mission to the International Space Station (ISS). The trio, consisting of NASA astronaut Loral O'Hara and Roscosmos cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub, lifted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan aboard a Russian spacecraft, marking another significant step in space exploration.
The launch of the Roscosmos Soyuz MS-24 spacecraft occurred at 8:44 p.m. local time (1544 GMT, 11:44 a.m. EDT). This mission holds great importance as O'Hara, and Chub are making their maiden voyage into space, accompanied by the experienced cosmonaut Kononenko, who has completed the journey four times before.
The crew members are set to embark on varying durations on the ISS, with O'Hara spending six months aboard the space station, while Kononenko and Chub are set for an extended stay of a year. This mission highlights international cooperation and the collective efforts of space agencies to advance our understanding of space and conduct critical research on the ISS.
The journey to the ISS is expected to take approximately three hours, with the crew arriving at their destination after a safe and successful journey. This mission reinforces the significance of global collaboration in space exploration and the continuous efforts to expand our horizons beyond Earth.
The successful launch and journey of this international crew remind us of humanity's relentless pursuit of knowledge and exploration beyond our planet. As they venture into the cosmos, their mission will undoubtedly contribute to our understanding of space and our ability to push the boundaries of human exploration.

Abandoned Russian Space Shuttle Testing Facility
With the prototype shuttles still sitting in there!
A fellow photographer on my other Twitter account (The friends and political one!) posted the link to this site (This should lead to the Google translated version):
https://translate.google.co.uk/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fralphmirebs.livejournal.com%2F219949.html&edit-text=&act=url
It’s a fascinating selection of photographs from the Russian Space Shuttle programme. A testing facility with two of the prototype shuttles still in place, but now in very poor condition.
A love of abandoned places (This one has been like this for over 20 years according to the photographer) and space travel (Being a fan of the TV show ‘The 100′ has reignited an interest in these types of images) prompted me to post it here. My other photographic love - Hyper-realistic High Dynamic Range images is, sadly, not explored here - these pictures would be amazing in HDR.
The Google translation is a bit rough but is readable enough to give a good explanation of the pictures - there is a very good argument about financial waste and how Russia appears to have given up on modernisation and still relies on old Soviet space equipment - maybe this will change with the plans for a joint Chinese/Russian space station after the current ISS agreement ends? Another nod to ‘The 100′ - not sure if that show realises how prophetic it is!
Russian Spacecraft Re-Enters over Pacific Ocean
ROSCOSMOS - Russian Vehicles patch. May 8, 2015 The Russian Federal Space Agency (Roscosmos) reports the Progress 59 cargo craft reentered the Earth’s atmosphere at 10:04 p.m. EDT over the central Pacific Ocean.
Image above: The unpiloted Russian ISS Progress 50 (50P) resupply ship undocks from the International Space Station. The spacecraft was not carrying any supplies critical for the United States Operating Segment (USOS) of the station, and the break up and reenty of the Progress posed no threat to the ISS crew. Both the Russian and USOS segments of the station continue to operate normally and are adequately supplied well beyond the next planned resupply flight.
