A group of roughly thirty Ukrainian Christian missionaries, both young and old of the Good Samaritan Slavic Missionary Church from Sacramento, California, visited and sang religious hymns of peace and love to Russian refugees waiting for U.S. asylum at the San Ysidro Port of Entry in Tijuana, Mexico on Friday, March 18, 2022. — The missionary group brought food, hope and prayer supporting their “brothers and sisters” in solidarity of their current situation. Historically Russians and Ukrainians share a bond due to their different yet similar traditions and cultures as Slavs, which as a whole are members of the most numerous ethnic and linguistic body of peoples in Europe (residing chiefly in the eastern and southeastern parts of the continent but extending also across Northern Asia and the Pacific Ocean). Customarily, Slavs are subdivided into Eastern Slavics which are Russians, Ukrainians, and Belarusians. — #russianrefugees #ukrianianrefugees #tijuanamexico #tijuana #mexico #photojournalism #fotoperiodismo #ukraine #russia #ukrainerussiawar #documentaryphotography #frontera #usmexicoborder #fronterizo #everydayeverywhere #edca #everydaylatinamerica #everydayeasterneurope #everydayukraine #everydaylafrontera #everydaymexico #everydaysocialjustice #reportagespotlight (at San Ysidro Border Line/ Tijuana, Mexico) https://www.instagram.com/p/CbQ895DJWc6/?utm_medium=tumblr
The root is not something can define you as a best person or better than someone else, it can only show you where you have come from. I finally found the root of my family. A small town in the south west of Russia. A beautiful town with less than 15000 population. My grand grandpa, Agaiev, was a wealthy man but was a real human being. When they left Russia and came to Iran, Iranians weren't kind to them. Some Russian refugees at the time experienced assault and insult, some Iranians raped their daughters and wives, but Agaiev didn't believe in revenge. He didn't believe in teeth for teeth and eye for eye. He believe that act of kindness can change the world around you. People who had seen him admit that he was one of the kindest human beings. He gave free groceries to thieves and asked them to not to rob people in the neighborhood, the neighborhood that majority of its residents were Iranians not Russians. After that no one ever insulted him or his family. Even if someone would come forward against Agaiev other Iranians would stop the person. He gained the trust of his hosts by being kind to them despite Iranians prior hostilities. He is my hero. Now ask yourself, can you be kind to someone who hates you? Try it. It worked for Agaiev and may work for you too. #russian #iranian #iran #russia #wwii #refugees #refugeeswelcome #sovietunion #cccp #petrovskaya #petrowskaja #history #root #kindness #russianrefugees #bandaranzali #Петровская #беженец #краснодар (at Petrovskaya, Krasnodarskiy Kray, Russia)
