(11/09/2021) 9/11… I had to do it.
Today marks 20 years from the infamous 9/11 incident. I decided to mix my love for figure skating and drawing to create something to “celebrate” (more like “remember” since everyone knows this wasn’t an happy event at all). I drew my favorite skater, Evgenia Medvedeva ( @jmedvedevaj ) from Russia, who skated to the soundtrack of the movie “Extremely Closed and Incredibly Loud” which is about these events. She also uses voice clips from the movie which created a lot of controversy, but never the less made the program memorable.
Each time she performed it, it was different and with different interpretations, but at the World Team Trophy in 2017, she skated the cleanest routine she had ever skated (making it the historical world record for the Ladies/Women Free Skate). That time, she skated and interpeted the way it was supposed to be, conveying the true meaning behind the program: When people get out of their houses, we are never really sure if they’ll ever come back, so we must cherish each moment we have with our dear ones.
