Open every day, Longmire has much to offer. Stop in the Longmire Museum to talk to a ranger about current conditions or go to the National Park Inn for a warm meal. On your way between the two buildings, pause at the Transportation Exhibit. Housed inside the old Longmire service station, a series of exhibit panels explore the history of the Paradise Road and travel in the park.

The building itself is also part of the exhibit. The service station was built in 1929 and stopped selling gasoline in 1994, but still has replica historic gas pumps in front.

As one of the best surviving examples of a NPS Rustic gas station in the National Park Service, the Longmire Service Station is designated a National Historic Landmark. Have you stopped by the Transportation Exhibit while visiting Longmire?

A Rustic Mid-Century Modern Bathroom

Look at this unusual house for $350K in Bristol, Virginia.

Isn’t this nice? It’s quite a large home for $350K.

The main bd. is huge, but I’m not fond of the open bathroom. I would probably have to put up a wall.

There are 5.5 baths and I can’t tell if they’re part of bds. b/c they’re so huge.

Uniquely beautiful home. I just read that the buyer is entitled to a landfill disclosure, so I looked that up and apparently it’s near a landfill that may smell or otherwise have toxicity.

Here's a piece I recently finished that's based on a sketch done late last year (image #2), which was itself very slightly modeled on a photo of an armory building (image #3). Note the apparently pyramidal form, steeply pitched roof, and staggered sequence of lunettes. As often happens, the lunettes and several other details were lost or altered during the transition to a more polished piece.

I'm continuing to experiment with the siting of these structures. The environment here is some sort of bewilderingly dense forest, with masses of stringy foliage hanging down and billowing out. Around the structure, petrified agglomerations rise up. I like the idea that the architecture was once similar to these knobby formations, and somehow evolved out of that -- the implication being that the organic is always embedded within the apparently inorganic.

I'm still not sure how atmospheric I want this work to get, in terms of light, shade, and depth. Right now, I'm enjoying the -- for lack of a better term -- graphic appearance, where the only shading occurs near margins and is indicated by little sequences of linework.
