Thinking about my friend who passed recently. We went to HS together. He was a musician, a karaoke host, and Vegas music scene royalty. I just heard a song from his band Rusty Maples called the Road Less Traveled.

Much love to Vegas indie rockers Rusty Maples for shooting over their festive Christmas tune Here Comes Krampus (Christmas Song) this morning. It surely makes Christmas Eve even more enjoyable with its warm playfulness, jangly mirth, and joyous charm. If you missed my prior feature on these guys, Rusty Maples is quite popular back home in Las Vegas, having opened up for Imagine Dragons and other huge acts of the area in the past. Rusty Maples is a heart warming rock band out of Las Vegas, where they've been quite popular with the locals for some time now. In fact, other huge Vegas acts that you might recognize have opened for them in the past, including a certain band named Imagine Dragons... ever heard of them? Maybe? Perhaps? Rusty Maples just released their new EP, The Western World, produced by Alex Rose from Minus The Bear. I was thoroughly impressed when I listened through the tunes, easily drawn to their robust, anthemic sound which lies somewhere in the crossroads of folk, heartland rock, and alt rock. It's only a matter of time before the rest of the nation starts to catch on to these guys, who have also played SXSW and are slated to play the Life Is Beautiful fest. I was hard pressed to select a favorite track to share with you off their new EP, but it had to be between mellifulous Long Walk Home, above, and the bluesy Favor The Fake, below. Rascal, also below, was a close third. Head over here to check out the six track release. I'd imagine these songs would translate very nicely live. Rusty Maples will be on tour most of this season.
