Boughs Of Holly “A Pinky and the Brain Christmas” (1995)
Espionage “A Pinky & The Brain Christmas” (1995)
I'm sad to report that veteran animator of 25 years Rusty Mills passed away yesterday at the age of 50.
You may not know his name, but you know his work. Rusty graduated from CalArts in 1984, emerging as an incredibly gifted character animator. He soon got his first job as an assistant animator on "An American Tail", and eventually found himself at Warner Brothers working on Tiny Toons. His first directing job was for Tiny Toons Night Ghoulery.
Rusty flourished at WB, becoming one of the producers for Animaniacs and winning FIVE Emmies for his work there, including a Daytime Emmy for directing "A Pinky and the Brain Christmas". He would then close out the 90's working as one of the directors for "Wakko's Wish".
Rusty continued to have a career in character animation, but sadly, was diagnosed with colon cancer last year without having shown any symptoms. At that point, it was stage IV and had spread to his liver. He only lived until yesterday.
Rusty leaves behind a wife, Andrea, and a 15 year old son, Evan. Like any good husband and father, Rusty was the main source of income for his family, so his death leaves his family in a tough spot. Go to this fundraiser and donate some money, this is a family who could really use it.
For those of us born between the early 80's and the early 90's, Rusty was one of the architects of our childhood.
Keep him in your thoughts, remember his work, and donate whatever you can to his family.
RIP Rusty Mills
