Need to publicly shame this local school board a bit. I wish this would get out on bigger news. I live near here, and the only people talking about it are teachers.

On Thursday, the (heavily conservative) school board of Rutherford County, a massive suburb of Nashville, Tennessee voted to pass a resolution calling for the closure of the national borders. Their argument centered around complaining about how difficult and expensive it was to educate the county's growing ESL population.

This is so hateful, out of line, and insulting to our students. They're a disgrace to education as a profession.

Rutherford County Emergency Operations Center Confirms All 1,107 Missing Persons Located and Safe

Rutherford County, NC – The Rutherford County Emergency Operations Center is relieved and proud to announce that all 1,107 individuals initially reported as missing due to Hurricane Helene have been located and confirmed safe. As of Thursday, October 10th, there are no remaining unaccounted-for persons in Rutherford County. This marks a significant milestone in the county’s disaster response, achieved through the relentless dedication of the Missing Persons Sub Section of the Operations Center, which included the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI. Their tireless, around-the-clock efforts over the past 14 days have been nothing short of extraordinary, bringing comfort and relief to countless families.

While we are grateful for the lives saved and the many who were found safe, we grieve the loss of three community members during this disaster. One life was tragically lost due to flooding in the Lake Lure area, while two others were claimed by fallen trees elsewhere in the county. Student mocked by adults after sharing personal Covid-19 connection at school board meeting

MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) – Another Midstate school board meeting is making national headlines. You might remember the one in Williamson Count

At a meeting of the Rutherford County School Board in Tennessee, junior Grady Knox spoke in favor of a mask mandate. He related his own devastating personal experience with COVID-19:

"This time last year, my grandmother, who was a former teacher at the Rutherford County school system, died of Covid because someone wasn't wearing a mask. This is a very--"

At which point some adults in the audience who opposed masks (e.g., the "Let our kids smile." sign in the background) interrupted Grady by laughing at his story. When he tried to continue, they stopped him again with more laughter and heckling.

Pro-tip: When you don't want to let anyone who disagrees with your position speak, it kinda undermines your claim that you're better than the other side because you're not forcing your position on anyone.

Black Children Were Jailed for a Crime That Doesn’t Exist. Almost Nothing Happened to the Adults in Charge.

Judge Donna Scott Davenport oversees a juvenile justice system in Rutherford County, Tennessee, with a staggering history of jailing children. She said kids must face consequences, which rarely seem to apply to her or the other adults in charge.

Garrett asked if she could call their parents first. Carroll told her no. Garrett told the police that one girl had diabetes and got treatment when she arrived home after school. Please, the principal said. Let me call her parent. On this, the police ultimately compromised, saying the girl could get a shot in the nurse’s office before being taken to the jail.

This story only gets worse from here. The kids won a class action suit. The officers and judge are still there. The county made a promotional video about their ability to jail children. 

The judge is up for re-election next year.
