The Ruth Ellis Center is one of a select few mission-specific agencies in the Midwest dedicated to providing safe space for runaway and homeless LGBTQ youth. Between 800 and 1,000 LGBTQ youth are experiencing homelessness in Metro Detroit. The Center’s nationally recognized programs served nearly 500 of them last year. The Ruth Ellis Center provides over 5,000 units of service annually, including safety net and basic needs services through the Second Stories Drop In Center, residential foster care, and specialized counseling and case management services to help runaway and homeless LGBTQ youth create pathways to safety and independence.
