lucas is  sure  his face must be as red as the cheri berries in his bag.  he swallows thickly  ,  waiting until he’s  sure  barry’s eyes are  actually  closed  &  scraping up what’s left of his nerve.  maybe he  shouldn’t  do this  ,  maybe he should do something  else  instead  ,  laugh it off like a  joke  or something.

not that he’s ever been very  good  at that  ,  but he could always  try  .  sighing  ,  his hands grip the strap of his bag  tightly  as he clears his throat.

oh  ,  he  certainly  had a surprise in store for him  ,  but perhaps not whatever barry was expecting.

eevee nudges his ankle affectionately from the floor  &  he nods to her  &  himself  ,  bracing for whatever would come next.  he’s waited probably a  bit  too long  ,  but he leans over anyways  ,  pressing his lips against barry’s gently.  he doesn’t linger too long  ,  face turning the same shade as his  scarf  as he hides behind it  ,  too  nervous  to see his reaction. 

‘ u-um....sorry, that’s....probably not what you were expecting. ’ 

his voice is muffled by his scarf  &  lucas is too afraid to lower it  ,  eyes shut tight behind the fabric as his voice is nearly a whisper. 

‘ but....i-i really like you. ’

lucas can only  laugh  when barry stumbles into him  ,  one arm thrown around his shoulders to catch him.  his glaceon purrs from the snowbank  ,  clearly  amused  with barry’s antics.  he is too  ,  but for  different  reasons.  carefully  ,  he gets barry upright again  ,  grinning  all the while.  he shouldn’t have expected anything less from his friend  ,  truthfully  ,  but it wouldn’t be  any  fun if he was any different. 

‘ oh, i come out here every winter.  it’s really pretty relaxing. ’ 

he doesn’t get  fancy  with the footwork  ,  but he’s at least got his  balance  under him enough to to stand on his own.  he thinks for a moment  ,  slowly coming to a stop before he speaks. 

‘ here, put your hands on my shoulders.  you’ll be more stable that way. ’ 

his  own  hands are at barry’s sides for a moment  ,  laughing  nervously  at how close they are all of a sudden  ,  &  if his face is a little pink  ,  he’ll blame it on the  cold  .

lucas is half  asleep  at his desk when barry barges into his room  ,  jolting him awake from the near  heart-attack  he’s given.  truthfully  ,  the assistant isn’t sure whether he’s actually awake or just  dreaming  again  ,  especially when barry crosses the distance between them in about three seconds flat  ,  grabs him by the scarf  &  ...

kisses him.  right on the mouth.

now lucas  really  isn’t sure if he’s dreaming or not.  either way  ,  his face goes about as  red  as his scarf  ,  vaporeon chittering as if  laughing  from her place on his bed  ,  &  empoleon  has the nerve to join her.  he stutters for a moment  ,  pulling his scarf up to hide the color to his face in vain. 

‘ u-usually people give some kind of w-warning before doing that !!  g-geez... ’ 

thoroughly  embarrassed  now  ,  lucas does the only thing he can think of  ,  &  pulls barry down by his shirt in return. 

‘ seriously...sometimes i wonder why i fell in love with you. ’ 

oh.  had he said that out loud ??

judging from the way he can practically  hear  the gears in barry’s head grind to halt  ,  lucas  did  in fact say that out loud  ,  &  his own thoughts do the same.  they stay like that for a moment  ,  staring at each other as if processing that  yes  ,  that really did happen. 

‘ o-oh, come on !!  like you didn’t know how i felt, t-that’s what the applin was for !! ’ 

he won’t mention the  hours  he spent looking for the  friendliest  one he could find while studying in galar.  it had to be  perfect  ,  after all. 

‘ a-are you gonna say something, or keep looking at me like i’ve got three heads ?? ’
