"I'm not saying you had to take it immediatly the second the pulse goes out," she sighs, her brows furrowing. "But you've taken to the habit of not returning souls that were clearly meant to go. You know what happens if they remain for too long. You have a duty, Skullz."
give me tears of the kingdom, i need to feel this again…..
[mun] pen sketch of heldes' human form. i dont have any digital art for her yet so thats all ull get im sorry qwq
Xerneas returned the bow, lowering his neck so the prongs of his antlers remained upright. It seemed a stiff thing after her graceful movements. He took a step nearer, his more sure than hers had been.
“Yes, that was it. I apologize for my ignorance. Reincarnation and the afterlife are outside my responsibilities. Yveltal will prove more knowledgeable, should you two meet.”
The light of his antlers illuminated the markings along her form and accentuated the angles of her limbs. Her lilac glow did not fade in its presence. Rather it seemed to compliment the yellow of his. Xerneas supposed it would be the same against Yveltal’s light.
How pleasant.
“It is an honor to meet you, as well. We were informed of your creation, but not where to find you. You have…been well?”
Though he and Yveltal no longer got along as they once had, they once had. Even after their falling out they still met with each other and Zygarde. It was difficult to imagine being away from either of the two for long. Didn’t Heldes deserve similar? She was part of the cycle, if not as involved as Yveltal and himself.
With him taking a step nearer, Heldes was tempted to take one backwards, to concede the space she'd occupied to Xerneas. She wished not to make him think of her as weak or cowardly though, and so the dragon stood her ground against the grand deerlike creature, marvelling at the dancing lights his antlers projected.
"You mustn't apologize, lord." Heldes replied, her voice firm but mild. Her wings flapped briefly to shake off the tense feeling of remaining in place for a long while. His mustering of her markings was not lost on her, but not wanting to offend in some way she chose to ignore it. "I didn't expect for you to burden yourself with deeper knowledge over what isn't your domain or task." Had she been able to smile in this form, she would. Instead the lights at the tips of her horns twinkled in reply.
Her six bent legs held the dragon upright as though she was floating on a breeze. Xerneas' own bow to her was regarded with a surprised scratch of the dust beneath, between the wilds of the tall grass.
His question however, caused her to quiet for a little. Her gaze averted, Heldes remembering the eons spent in isolation from everyone else, only ever getting to meet the souls who would soon leave her again as well. It had been so unbelievably lonely, but she'd always fulfilled her meaning diligently and without question. Even now she held this task above everything else; if that weren't the case, she wouldn't be out here in the mortal plane, seeking for those stranded souls that never got to pass by her gate.
"... I've been well. But I will admit I've... I've failed to fulfill my task to the fullest in the past thousand years. I am here in the mortal plane to rectify my mistakes."

His presence had been felt by Heldes before it had been noted consciously. The dragon stilled in her movement, spindely legs holding her almost above the tall grass she had been traversing. Kalos didn’t have quite as much of it as many other regions had, at least not to the degree that Heldes’ expected, but it was enough to grant her cover for the most part from the human eye.
But knowing Xerneas was in the area, the fairy dragon type made no pretenses about her presence; her head swiveling around trying to get a glimpse of the king of fairies. She hadn’t met him personally yet; Arceus had made her with his existence in mind, but given how removed she had been from regular life in the world, she’d only known of him from what knowledge Arceus had written about him in her core.
She wanted to see him, at least once. She wanted to see the fabled deity of life, before she had to leave for her quest again. She wanted to express her deference and respect to him. In the dark of this night, the forest canopy shrouded all but the slightest glimmer of moonlight, and Heldes’ lilac glowing eyes gleamed like jewels in the shadows of the tall grass, but there was no doubt. If he wanted to find her, he would.
“…Xerneas? Is it you, lord?”
Xerneas watched her. He’d heard of her. Arceus had at least told him and his brother of her existence and her role after her creation. Then…that was it. Only the knowledge she was around. Nary a sighting or a peep. As much a mystery to Xerneas and Yveltal as they were to others.
Well, he could at least claimed to have met her the next time he and Yveltal met.
“It is.”
He stepped between the trees, antlers lighting to set a glow in the branches. A curious looking thing she was. Beautiful in the way all higher beings were, with a spindly set to her limbs to rival his own.
“You are…Heldes, was it? The guardian to the other realm?”
The glow of fractured light danced around the bark and branches of the forest surrounding the two fairy types, and Heldes' eyes fixated on the marvelous sight of the embodiment of life. He was such a completely strange being, on the complete other end of the bar of creation, and yet she found herself entranced by his appearance.
So that is what he looked like. Xerneas' aura was powerful in a way Heldes had not experienced before. It was clear that he'd been watching her for at least a few minutes before she'd even realized he was there. She barely dared approach him, lest she could potentially startle him, or appear like a threat.
Instead she sighed, a breath held for a little while finally getting released, and with graceful movement befitting a queen like her she curtsey bowed infront of Xerneas, her six legs almost awkwardly arranging themselves to account for the pose.
"Indeed, I am Heldes. Guardian to the afterlife and reincarnation." she started, as she moved to stand again. A cautious step she took toward his direction, trying to get a better glimpse of him in the shadows that were only minorly banished by the glow of his marvelous crown.
"I've ... been told of you. It's a great honor to finally make your acquaintance." She considered him her superior in the way she considered Yveltal her superior; someone who's opinion and favor she would like to gain, but also someone who she would pay deference to. She couldn't help but be transfixed by Xerneas, and she dearly hoped it wasn't too obvious behind her own glow that she was staring sheepishly just a little bit.
for the extraordinary muses questions, number 12 and number 17
12. What is the hardest thing about having a special power?
"Knowing that inevitably I will make someone hate me for taking them away when they don't think they are ready yet. They won't remember me, of course, but the burden of empathy and the curse of having memories is such that you will remember the look in their eyes, even when they will not remember you."
17. What does it feel like when you use your talents?
"It depends for the most part on what part of my abilities I make use of. It tends to kind of feel like variations of the feeling of when a breeze brushes over your skin, though, and diving through the portals between the realms feels like gliding through water."
@schedarouge "Miss Mela, a volcano is neither sentient nor sapient, and therefore literally incapable of fighting you. I think you may have more luck attempting to fight a camerupt."
@rvlbarry
The blackhaired lady took a discreet step to the left, casually dodging the young man who was apparently in a great rush and not paying attention to where he was going. She did not make any attempts at stopping him from running into the wall right behind her. "Sir, maybe you would like to brake really quick and assess your enviroment."
