I mean idk, if Monstra was scary out of universe, since it comes off overtop...I'll say narm charm because it was cool and goofy, I know in-universe it had to be scary lol...

RWBY but it’s vintage headlines I found
Something doesn’t add up...
From “Midnight”, when Hazel has been beating up Oscar and Ozpin offers to take over:
Oscar: No, it’ll be even worse. He’s holding back with me. I can tell.
Then, we get to “Ultimatum”, when Oscar is telling Yang, Jaune, Ren, and Emerald that Ozpin is back:
Oscar: I know how you feel but he saved my life. When we were tortured, he took it. So I wouldn't have to.
Is this poor writing, or is CRWBY setting something up? Because what Oscar tells Ozpin is different from what he’s telling his friends...
Ozpin in Monstra appreciation post
You know, as much as I love this volume (and I really, really love it) I’m not gonna lie - I’m a little disappointed we’re not getting our Penny vs Monstra battle now.
It’s not like it ruins the volume or anything, and I’m so unbelievably proud of Oscar, but... still. I was looking forward to that.
Whale that is a hell of way to take us to the midseason break. Winter and the Ace Opps don’t seem to get that these kids won’t Ren away from their problems. Oscar’s gambit is interesting though I’m a bit Hazel-y on how he hopes it will play out. Finally the rest of our heroes get to reKlein and let the butler help out, at least until someone made it rain Penny’s from heaven.
Has this been talked about?
When rewatching Rwby vol8, I couldn’t help but notice these parallels. I have a gist that it’s kinda how body horror works… and I don’t know if it was intentional or not, but look at the pictures under the cut. (Put them there, because they are mildly disturbing.)
On a re-watch of chapter 3 with subtitles I realized I'd misunderstood something - I'd thought the elevator guards said "no one can get close to [Salem's] storm without getting shot down" which I figured was like. Military slang for fucking eaten by Grimm.
But the actual line is "shocked." So the storm/ocean surrounding Monstra isn't just for show; Salem has some sort of autonomous magical ward up that zaps anyone that gets too close. Either that or Monstra has some sort of electrical powers which at this point might as well happen.
