She found herself spending more and more time alone, trying to cope with Gary’s disappearance. Maggie sat by herself amid dozens of large pumpkins, their size providing excellent cover for her as she cried.
Eventually, though, she heard a brushing sound. Realizing that someone else was there, Maggie stood up quickly and backed away.
“I-I’m sorry!” she choked out between sobs, “I didn’t s-see you!”
{❀} She must have looked a bit strange out here- at a pumpkin patch with her thermometer and a crate of some of her test tubes to collect soil samples. It was good for her to go back to her basics at times- studying the appropriate short season of pumpkins in the fall.
She had been trying to collect data next to one of the largest pumkins in the patch before she heard the sounds of someone crying not to far from her.
She- couldn’t just leave her there, could she? That didn’t seem right..
“What..? Ah- I’m fine...what about you, though? What’s wrong?”
