You realize that AtLA demonized mental health in Azula (Describing her as a "ticking time bomb" in the comics), villainized Jet and Hama for having hostile responses to literal imperialism, and had a character who waged a siege on a city (presumably killing countless civilians and enemy soldiers) be reformed because he had a dead son, right?
Take off the rose-tinted glasses. Anything wrong with RWBY is also something that is wrong with AtLA. Demonizing characters who make good points (Jet, Adam), hastily done off-screen redemption arcs (Iroh, Ilia), and questionable handling of sensitive topics (Mental Health, Racism).
Though, I'll give credit where it's due… At least Emerald didn't hire an assassin to kill team RWBY after rejecting redemption because she was insecure of their demise…
I AM blaming RT for their horrible practices. The reason I brought up capitalism is because that’s what incentives these sorts of practices. It makes people focus on short-term gain instead of long-term profits.
And to be honest, I’ve seen too many people bashing VAs despite the fact that we all know for a definitive fact that they’d complain that their favorite characters aren’t being voiced. If anything, your response seems to be along the lines of people not wanting to pay their workers because capitalism makes them greedy bastards.
NDAs are a problem because it prevents people from talking about their work. It means that the company holds power over their workers, and that RT could easily construe anything that their voice actors say as violating that and fire them without any real just cause.
You were the one who wanted to defend capitalism. Shocker. You love the idea of people having to slave away at a job that’s thankless with horrible bosses who refuse to give their workers their due.
And to be honest, you’re the one who decided to come onto a post that was about RT mistreating their VAs and decided to say “The NDA thing was probably more about the Bayonetta drama” instead of accepting that RT was horrible.
It’s rooster teeth. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s a clause in the contract that stops them from talking about it.
Hell, the team was forbidden from making statements about the Clover thing a while ago, and then innocent people were harassed about it because they couldn’t explain the decision. And because of that, they were seen as complicit in the whole ordeal and couldn’t defend themselves.
But yeah. Voice Actors should be paid what they’re worth. And if people want to think that their jobs are easy, then why aren’t those people voice actors?
I don’t mind the rant. What I do mind is the fact that it took you 10 replies to make it. Please try to put it all into one reply/reblog instead next time, okay? I see the notifications and I’m here thinking “Oh! A lot of people liked my post and are spreading it around with likes and reblogs” and then it’s just a bunch of replies ranting (rightfully) about how the writers’ refusal to learn is actively malicious.
The main point I was making is that people seem to be going after other rwde posters (namely @solardragun) and that them being upset about the lgbtq+ rep is fully justified.
I even added that line about how if the writers have learned, they haven’t reflected it in their writing. Which is the message that when a person learns and moves further from ignorance, their rhetoric should also change.
I choose to believe that this is ignorance born out of a desire to be comfortable. The writers probably do know how a lot of this is supposed to work, but either they’re treading across eggshells because they’re too afraid of making a mistake, or they’re in fear of realizing “Hey, the way I treat this marginalized group is kinda messed up now that I have to write them as a human being and not as a prop” and they don’t want to have to confront that.
It’s the issue with racism all over again: They’re so scared of having to confront the idea that the way they think is problematic, so they make the extremist side the “main antagonist” and try to say that centrism is the way to go. Which, yay for centrists, you guys get to have all your beliefs validated by way of a bunch of white dudebros on the internet saying that sort of rhetoric that we’ve heard for so long.
The main problem is that the writers just see these groups as checklists for how they can do things. Enby Rep?- Little has that covered. Would it be better if there was an actual non-binary human as representation?- absolutely. But given how little presence their trans rep (May) had, it’s sad to think that the only representation that the non-binary community is getting from this show is a talking mouse. Which, while admittedly adorable, is still scraps compared to all the straight white heterosexual male rep we got from vomit boy.
So, again: The writers are doing all of this because they’re afraid of leaving their comfort zone, and the next time you rant, put it in a reblog or in as little replies as possible. Seriously. I was excited that the post was gaining traction and then it turns out to be a bunch of replies.
1: none of the shitty things Barbara has done negates any mistreatment she’s been through, similar to how the shitty things Kdin did 15 years ago fails to negate hers or the Bayonetta VA’s views doesn’t negate her poor treatment.
2: Let me sum up the choices under capitalism. Starve, be a wage slave, or be the slaver.
3: If you keep simping for capitalism like this, you’re going to get blocked.
Here’s another take: You guys are part of the problem. Claiming that a majority of the people in the rwde tag are just bitching and whining isn’t helpful, and is part of the reason why people are fearful of voicing their problems with the show.
This is exactly what people are talking about when they say that they’re afraid of coming to the rwde tag. They’re afraid of people like you calling them “complainers” and claiming their points to be “invalid.”
This cannot keep happening. People should be allowed to criticize the show without being called “bad faith complainers” or having their points be invalidated by the bad faith defenders.
I think it was more than Weiss and Yang combined. IIRC, he got third place.
Also, he was with Ren, Nora, and Ruby. Yang was at home having her soul be called a temper tantrum, Weiss was in Atlas being belittled by her brother and father, and Blake was at Menagerie being stalked by Sun and Ilia.
