This time we delve into settings and, more importantly, the kinds that make you want to scream, “Not another one!”
Space and other were combined since Space only received two votes. In comparison to everything else that was shockingly low. Don’t you guys think Aliens need love too?

Futuristic, Steampunk, Cyberpunk, Urban Fantasy
Futuristic seemed popular in the other comments along with variations of punk e.g. Cyberpunk, steampunk ect. We can get behind that. XXXXpunk always has such amazing possibilities in terms of character designs and worldbuilding. Why aren’t there more otomes like this?
Time for the stuff that you are sick of seeing in your romance games.
No surprises here. High school/school is at the top of your list.
School || We kept school as its own category because we were unsure if that would go in the college or high school category.
Japan || This one needs a little unpacking since we had to go through lots comments. A lot of people mentioned something to do with Japanese culture (e.g. idol groups, edo-period, samurai ect.) so we put all these comments under the category “Japan”. For Japanese high school we gave a vote for Japan and high school.
Amnesia??? || We were surprised with how often the word Amnesia came up. Though that wasn’t what we meant by setting, we hear you. The whole MC with amnesia thing has been done a million times over. We think it is usually done to justify why you’re a blank MC. As for amnesia endings... easy-outs???
Can you think of any other reasons why MC’s in otome always seem to suffer from bouts of amnesia?
