It’s finally done.
It’s finally over.
The Dwarf was gone, and Amestris is safe. It’s going to take a lot of work to undo the circle that the dwarf had cre ated to render it unusable for good, but for now everyone is fine.
Almost everyone. Alphonse....
Alphonse was not okay. With the threat finally neutralized, he can go to the empty, cold armor, and sit down by it, his hand on the chestplate. Edward is already there, half inside of it, trying to call his brother back from the void, reaching out with a bloody hand to try and redraw the seal. He catches it before he can touch the fresh blood to the mark, giving Edward a little shake of his head.
He’s knocked back of course, but he moves forward again, this time grabbing Edward by the shoulder. Their eyes meet, a clash of golden gazes until... Edward starts to cry, slumping down in front of the armor, hands to each side of the opening.
“He’s my baby brother, goddamn it! I have to try!”
“He knew what he was doing, Edward. He doesn’t want you to lose more of your body on him.”
His remaining son goes quiet then, tears running down his face for the moment he can see him, before his head lowers behind his arms. He doesn’t say anything for a while, and when he does, it’s almost too quiet to hear.
“I want to be alone with him.”
Hohenheim doesn’t try to fight him on this, deciding to go and check on the others instead, resolving to keep an eye on Edward though he leaves. He understands. As much as he would like to sit with Alphonse as well, he understands. He finds himself moving over to the dark haired man that had joined them, giving a nod at Izumi as he reaches out to touch his shoulder.
“You doing all right? Are you hurt?”
