Ryan Boyce – Heavy Set The Heavy Set, for me, is that thing you can’t explain. Every woman has it. Every many craves it. I wrote this song, tongue in cheek, as a Valentine’s Day gift for my wife. Of course, she wants flowers and diamonds. Look, bottom line is, in a long haul relationship, sometimes you gotta fight like hell to rediscover the adolescent, fun, sexy and spicy attraction that pulled you in to begin with. The Heavy Set is for everyone who’s still crazy enough in love to fight for it. Cheers!

Behind The Music Ryan Boyce on Music in 2021 featuring New Single Volatile Hearts
Get Behind The Music with Ryan Boyce and Jacqueline Jax as they discuss the future of Indie Music at the turn of our New year and feature his new single "Volatile hearts Collide"
PODCAST:
What was one notable event that helped shape your last decade?
The last decade has been about figuring out how to love me. I'm still not there, but I am evolving emotionally and constantly. We all are. I think the thing that has most shaped my decade has been being a better husband and father. The birth of my grandson really brought things full circle for me. I mean that's some real heavy shit on a lot of fronts.
Song name: Volatile Hearts Collide
Music Genre:: Pop, Rock, Alt Country
Location: Salt Lake City, Utah. Volatile Hearts Collide' is a challenge not only to myself but to all of us. You look at a lot of social media and culture right now, and it's seemingly just become this cauldron of boiling, polluted, and ill-tempered disdain........for virtually everything imaginable. Why? Because.......what? Your civil liberties? Or, your right and license to speak your mind, no matter how hateful?
What the hell ever happened to love, for the sake of love, regardless of the circumstances, because it feels good and heals hearts and souls? I know it sounds goofy and naive, but it's the truth. Love is the truth, and it happens where Volatile Hearts Collide.
My music is emotionally charged, first and foremost. I think that's true of most artists. I mean, look, we've all been through some shit—especially this past year. I really feel like it's part of an artist's responsibility to act as the bond or glue that holds us all together, despite the opposition.
This release has been so difficult. I set out to write a pop song. (Laughs Out Loud). Those who know me know that's not my brand. As the journey progressed, I understood what I always believed, genres and boxes don't matter. I kept telling myself, "Make a good song. Don't complicate it."
I think this song is emblematic of the direction I've been headed in, musically, since I started. And that direction is simply forward, despite the obstacles. Music and art know no bounds or limits. They transcend all barriers and speak all languages. As long as I'm making music that reflects an open mind and welcomes many influences, I'll always be headed in the right direction.
What most inspires you?
Simple: real life and those who are not afraid to experience the unknown. Ten years ago, I had no preconceived notions that I'd be sitting here, sharing and talking about the music I make. Truthfully I still don't. Especially in these times and circumstances. I try to make every song like it's my last, the best I possibly can. I'm not a career musician. I likely never will be. But I'm leaving a legacy that, in my mind, legitimizes my existence. A journal, if you will. If that is the only thing that comes of this, it will be enough.
What's your goal for 2021?
I'm fully aware of the potential and future of independent music, but I fear, and always have, that money and the pursuit of social-cultural status are polluting the arts. I understand that we all need to make a living, but is that ALL we really need? And do we really need to supplant creativity with algorithmic data, ones, and zeros to determine an artist's worth and weight? I think not.
My goal for 2021 is to have a better year than in 2020. Lol. That's not saying much, all things considered, but I think we all aspire to be better than we were. If we didn't, what would be the point of it all? Artistically, there are plenty of areas to improve. Mostly, I'd really like to emphasize music and business relationships. Admittedly, I loathe that side of "the business," but I could be a lot less abrasive and resistant about it.
