Dear Diary.
After Emma was brought back from the Ak'abians, she started a new journal. It wasn't much like a normal journal: rather than describing events, she wrote stories and poems that reflected some aspect of what she was feeling. The stories and poems often featured people she knew. Very little of it was pleasant. Quite a lot of it was pornographic. Ryan packed Emma's journals with the rest of the things she left behind, and after some internal struggle, flipped through them. He didn't do more than that for her earlier journals, but he's read the prose and poetry journal cover to cover. Repeatedly. Especially the pornographic stories that feature himself. That's what he masturbates most often to, these days. He's considered one of those fantasies for when he makes his donation for Darla's insemination (some of them, he's reread so many times that he doesn't need to anymore, he has them memorized, he's made up images for them, all he has to do is close his eyes). He thinks maybe he shouldn't, because it'd be too weird. He thinks maybe he should ask Darla, then he thinks he really shouldn't because that would be really weird. Generally, this train of thought ends with him laughing in a so-I-don't-cry way over what is and isn't weird in his life.
Nothing's changed. I'm dead, and the city looks the same. As far as the world knows, you're no longer in it. But it keeps turning. Yeah. Certain things... Humble you? Well, I was gonna say "really piss me off," but yeah, okay.

About Cordelia
Cordelia: Save the lessons for your collectibles. Ryan: Did you just insult my children? Cordelia: ::tch:: Ryan: Did you?
In fact, she did not. She was insulting his vampires (she'd called him a collector a second ago, and was describing vampires as the things he collects). But when insulting his babies seemed to make him madder, she was trying to decide whether or not she wanted that. On the one hand, making him more upset sounded fun, because she was very angry and making other people angry when she is seems both fair and satisfying. (She is stunningly unaware of it, but she sometimes thinks very much like a vampire when she has feelings she doesn't like.) On the other hand, she didn't actually want him angry enough to hurt her. Then it got to the point in the argument where she could either take back something she said that hurt him (as if!) or actually get hit.
That was why she walked away.
Men do not roar. Women roar. (longingly) And they hurl heavy objects... and claw at you... What does the man do? He reads love poetry... (pulls himself together) He ducks a lot.

I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all the kinds of things you can’t see from the center.

But if you think there's something else, well you're right, there is. There's something else. But if you think I'm gonna tell you think again, why should I even think of telling you what there is? Yeah, 'cause silence is knowledge, and knowledge is power. I'm under explicit orders to dare not speak its name. Listen up, I just work here. Oh, I dare not speak its name, I can't keep talking about it, I dare not speak its name.
