Daisy Blackwood
So, y’know that lazy trope where the tomboyish gal who hates dresses seems to end up magically looking sexy and confident when she has to wear one?
One of the things I love about Daisy Blackwood: Pilot for Hire is that it doesn’t cave to that trope. I love that Daisy looks uptight and uncomfortable wearing what looks to be an otherwise elegant evening gown. I’ve plugged the comic by Ryan Howe at least once in the past, as it features a smart, scrappy, resourceful heroine who can fly an airplane or throw a punch with equal skill. The setting has a 1940′s aesthetic and reminds me a lot of the TaleSpin cartoon that Disney ran back in the ‘90s.

Here’s a peek at Black Terror: Social Insecurity, a graphic novel that I’m working on for later this year. Words and letters by me, art by Ryan Howe, Alan Weiss (page 1) and Tomas Marijanovic (colors).
The thrilling adventures of Daisy Blackwood, adventurer and pilot. Updates Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Up late reading Daisy Blackwood’s archives. It’s a smart, somewhat pulpy little webcomic with a 1940s action/adventure feel. Heroine is a clever, resourceful, mercenary/pilot/adventuress. Current mission is rescuing wealthy friend who I kind of hope is or will be her girlfriend. Definitely recommend.
