I think this is one of the best comics I’ve ever written. It’s “Badges O’Keefe, Canine Time Thief” with Dani Grew, Larry Franks and myself. I wrote it as if this were the theme song to a 1980s cartoon about a time traveling dog, lovable but unaware, who gets into all kinds of mischief. He’s being chased through time by his evil scientist owner, Dr. Machination, wrecking all of his plans and inadvertently saving the world.
There are a lot of bootleg Thing toys out there, mostly made in Mexico. I love them all - the uglier the better! Here are a few from my collection.
A few years ago, my friend Pietro and I pitched a short Adventure Time comic book story to Boom! Studios. It unfortunately never went anywhere, but hey, I’ll post it here! I wrote more pages, of course, but these were the only two that were drawn. My favorite thing about the show - which I absolutely adore - is the unbreakable bond between Finn and Jake.
Here’s a short Disenchantment pitch comic that I put together with artist Dani Grew. I love the show and would love to one day work on a comic based on it.
Here’s one of the first comics I ever worked on. It has skeletons! I like it. Pencils by Jason Seabaugh, inks by Rusty Gilligan, letters by Adnan Virk. I think it got printed somewhere at some point. Oh, and it’s called “The Deep”!
Here’s a peek at Black Terror: Social Insecurity, a graphic novel that I’m working on for later this year. Words and letters by me, art by Ryan Howe, Alan Weiss (page 1) and Tomas Marijanovic (colors).
This one-page comic is called “Space Frog”, because why not? The art is by Ian Nichols. It’s written by me. It was published in a recent issue of the Magic Bullet from DC Conspiracy. Perhaps we’ll see more from this crew in the future...probably minus poor Space Frog.
Rotten Tomatoes: Lost at Sea
In 2016 and ‘17, I helped create some poster/comic giveaways for the Rotten Tomatoes panel at Comic-Con in San Diego. This is the second in the series, drawn by Lonny Chant, colored by Tomas Marijanovic, and written/lettered by me. Both Matt and Grae are fabulous people.
“You Don’t Mess with the Big Red Rex”
Here’s a fun mixed-media comic strip from a few years back created by Paul Tucker and myself. “Big Red Rex” is obviously a Santa Claus-type character, and I really like the twist ending, no matter how many saw it coming. Paul is one of the most creative and inventive guys I’ve worked with - yes, that is Honeycomb cereal, along with popsicle sticks and models. At the bottom is Paul’s cover to a local magazine, “The Scope”, (with an added Christmas theme), published around the same time.
“I Hate The Moon”, a short comic published in the Magic Bullet. Art by Pietro. Words and letters by me. For a joke that’s not much of a joke, I really enjoy how this turned out.
“Rotten Tomatoes: Adrift in Space” poster that Ian Chase Nichols and I put together for Comic-Con. There was no way that I was not going to put Jay Sherman in this.
"Honcho: 3 Cheers" preview, with art by Jeff McComsey. Written by me. Pick up a copy at Comic-Con in San Diego!
"Black Terror: Wednesday at the Diner" with art by Rafer Roberts. Written by me. Fun with public domain superheroes!
"Eat It", a "Weird Al" Yankovic zombie comic, with art by Jim McMunn and Jeff McComsey. Written by me. I do not apologize for the title.
"The League of Obscure Historical Figures" with art by Jeff McComsey. Written by me for the "Magic Bullet" publication. Gen. George McClellan was an obvious choice.
"Mr. Massive Saves the Universe" with art by RJB and Artboy_X. Written by me. An early attempt at a webcomic.
