Thixotropy
Thixotropy is a time-dependent shear thinning property. Certain gels or fluids that are thick or viscous under static conditions will flow over time when shaken, agitated, shear-stressed, or otherwise stressed. They then take a fixed time to return to a more viscous state.
thixotropic/ (ˌθɪksəˈtrɒpɪk) /
adjective: (of fluids and gels) having a viscosity that decreases when a stress is applied, as when stirredthixotropic paints
This is the painting medium I’m using this assignment, as it has propaedeutic (serving as a preliminary instruction, or as an instruction to further study) properties.
This is a photo of a windswept canyon.
Ryan explained I should think of the forms in the box as the abstract form of canyons, and in terms of paradeiloa, he wants me to paint them as forms other than what they are. For the ear project, I should think something along the lines of, "This is not an ear or a portion of an ear, this is a windswept canyon."
Using a grid system, if you cover the entire photo, with an exception of one square, the one square is then abstract. The small square can be interpreted as something other than part of an ear, and this concept is known as pareidolia.
Day One with my new art teacher, the great, & infamous Ryan Shultz!
Ryan's first assignment is 'The Ear'. The importance of 'The Ear' is signified by how difficult an ear is for any brilliant artist of any level including famous artist, Carabaggio, to draw - even in cartoon or caricature form, as ears are often overlooked.
Note: Albiet Carabaggio being considered a good artist, he did a sloppy job of doing ears.
