Ryan Van Winkle is Poet in Residence at Edinburgh City Libraries following a successful run as the Scottish Poetry Library’s first-ever Reader in Residence. He has interviewed hundreds of poets for the Scottish Poetry Library’s poetry podcast and has been commissioned by the Prairie Schooner to turn the best of these transcripts into pieces for their online magazine.
Van Winkle has been invited to read internationally including at The Wordstorm Festival in Darwin, The Edinburgh International Book Festival, The London Literature Festival and Shakespeare & Co. in Paris. As Literature Co-Ordinator for Reel Festivals he has performed and hosted at the Erbil Literature Festival in Iraq, brought Syrian and Iraqi poets together with their UK contemporaries for translation workshops and performances throughout the UK and abroad.
His critically praised first collection, Tomorrow, We Will Live Here, was published by Salt in 2010 and won the Crashaw Prize. His poems have appeared in The American Poetry Review, AGNI, Poetry New Zealand, Gutter, Poetry Scotland, New Writing Scotland, The Guardian, Scotland on Sunday, Northwords Now, and a feature in Carcanet’s 2010 Oxford Anthology of New Poets. He was awarded a Robert Louis Stevenson Fellowship in 2012.
His poetry / theatre experiment Red, Like Our Room Used to Feel was the 6th highest rated rated show of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2012 and has been performed at the Battersea Arts Centre and in the Room for London at the London Literature Festival in 2013.
