Hanging out by the roller coaster making bets with himself to see how many people would blow chunks, Ryan caught sight of the blonde beauty and something about her caught his eye. Not just the sexy outfit, but the person herself. He knew her . . . didn’t he?

“Hey sexy mama,” he called out to her, feeling emboldened by the full face mask he wore. “Where you off to?” If he didn’t know her, maybe he could still make a little money today.

“Why the fuck would I be stalking you? I’m just walking here,” Ryan said, though he stopped when he saw who it was that had called out to him. “Oh. It’s you.” He snorted softly. “You really think I’m out here stalking you? You’ve got a pretty big head. Not everything is about you, you know.”

Ryan never went into the local bookstore. It always made him feel like an idiot to be surrounded by books he couldn’t read. Well, he could read them, but it would be a long and frustrating process, and his pride wouldn’t be able to take it. So he already felt uncomfortable stepping in through the door, wondering if everyone there could automatically tell that he was a shit reader and didn’t belong.

Pushing through the awkwardness, he made his way on his crutches over to the registers, looking for Mia. He came to a stop when he saw her, hesitating before lifting one hand in a silent greeting, hoping she’d come over to him so he didn’t have to shout or block the line and draw more attention to himself.
