when i was in 4th to 6th grade I had a teacher that was very passionate about teaching his students history in an accurate way. he told us stories about people that schools don't normally talk about (this was alternative school btw) and he talked a lot about black history since a lot of it isn't talked about sadly. he was a huge influence for me and he was amazing I miss him and the other alt teachers so much ToT. when i first learned about the underground railroad i thought they were literally talking about a railroad that slaves escaped to and i thought that was so badass but then i learned it was actually a series of stops and people that helped and led the slaves to freedom which is also badass. I was taught that even though our history doesn't define who we are that doesn't mean we forget what happened. we learn from our mistakes and teach the future generations to do the same by informing them of our history. sorry, i was just watching a video essay and thought about this lol
