Part 21

Annie walker: pov y rm eels unny.

Ryan McQuaid: pov what type of funny?

Annie walker: pov ike t's ingling.

Dr Rosen: pov annie can you move your fingers for me, good girl. I don't like how they are moving. She probably injured a nerve. I think I'm going to call down and see if the scan room is open as a precaution, she has one scheduled for tomorrow anyway. I will be back in a few minutes.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Looks like the scan room is open, Joan says she will stay here in the room, she wants to call Arthur anyway to keep him updated. An orderly is here to move Annie's gurney to the scan room, I follow beside the gurney/bed holding her hand.

Joan: pov I pick up the phone and call Arthur to let him know what happened. Hey Arthur.

Arthur: pov are you calling because you miss Mack already.

Joan: pov no, Annie fell and pulled her IV out.

Arthur: pov is she okay.

Joan: pov not sure she is getting scans as a precaution right now, she said her arm felt funny might be some minor nerve damage. Ryan came out to the parking lot to help me carry some stuff up while Annie was still asleep and she woke up and tried to go to the bathroom by herself.

Arthur: pov why didn't she ask the nurses for help she is not allowed up on her own.

Joan: pov I don't know you know Annie she is stubborn, after being shot by Lena and having major surgery she went after her before she was 100 percent. I realized then she wasn't asking me if she could go after Lena, Annie was telling me she was going after her. Which was very dangerous on her part.

Arthur: pov i figured she wasn't 100 percent when you told me she went after Lena. I can't believe she was that reckless.

Joan: pov Maybe if Annie hadn't rushed her recovery she wouldn't be in this spot.

Arthur: pov that probably didn't help but Lena shooting her caused all of this.

Joan: pov I know you're right, it's wrong to suggest Annie did anything to cause this Lena did. I'm glad she is dead.

Arthur: pov i’m going to have to let you go Mack just pooped his diaper and I think it's up his back.

Joan: pov you better take care of that. I will update you when I have more info.

Ryan McQuaid: pov while I wait outside the scan room I call my brother to let him know what is going on. Hey Jeff just wanted to let you know I might be running a little late. Annie fell getting up to go to the bathroom while I was out of the room for a second helping Joan carry a few things up to the room. I thought Annie was sleeping

Jeff McQuaid: pov is she okay.

Ryan McQuaid: pov she pulled her IV out during the fall. At the moment she is getting some scans done to make sure everything is okay.

Jeff McQuaid: pov if you can't make it, it's okay we can reschedule for tomorrow or I can stop by the hospital and bring some food.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I will update you in a bit if I can make it or not. After a bit Dr Rosen reappears with Annie, he says an orthopedic Dr is meeting us in the X-ray room, he called and it's available right now. Annie can barely keep her eyes open. i can tell she is fighting to stay awake, sweetheart it's okay to sleep if you need to. She finally gave in to the pain meds and fell asleep.

Dr Joshua: pov I'm waiting for Dr Rosen in the x-ray room. He has a patient that needs her arm X-rayed. He explains everything to me including her medical history and cardiac history.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I'm allowed in the room with Annie since she is asleep Dr Joshua is x-raying her arm differently. It should only take a few minutes, then we can head back to her room.

Dr Joshua: pov I'm not seeing anything on the x-ray only a big bruise, the area should be iced. The orderly is taking Annie back to her room.

Joan: pov After a bit the door to Annie's room opens, it's an orderly pushing her gurney/Bed back into place.

Ryan McQuaid: pov hey Joan, annie is all finished with her scans they even managed to take an x-ray of her arm. Dr Rosen should have the neurological/arm scan results soon, the orthopedic Dr looked at Annie's x-ray and didn't see any broken bones. Which is good news.

Joan: pov I think we should drink our smoothies. Annies should be okay till she wakes up.

Ryan McQuaid: pov It's so hard seeing her like this. I have to call my brother in a bit and update him after Dr Rosen speaks to us. Nurse Judy left the room after checking Annie's vitals to get some ice packs for her.

Nurse Judy: pov I got 2 ice packs for Annie if we wrap them they should be fine, the first one is for her arm and the other for her upper arm. All of Annie's monitors are on her left side except her IV which is now on her right side. 10 minutes is enough time for the ice packs after that they can be removed.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I will set a timer then that way I will know when to take the ice packs off. Any update on the case.

Joan: pov not much, still haven't figured out why the guy targeted her or why he was killed and who killed him. The timer is going off which means it's time to remove the ice packs. I can't believe Annie slept through that. I know you are worried about Annie but you should really hang out with your brother.

Dr Rosen: pov annie is probably sleeping so I quietly enter her room and signal to Ryan McQuaid that I need to talk to him in the hallway. I came to let you know her head scan results look good, the fall didn't cause any damage to her head. She might have a headache though, so keep an eye out for that. Her arm did show some nerve damage from the IV being yanked out so we will be keeping an eye on it. to be continued. …………

Part 20

Ryan McQuaid: pov Joan just texted me that she is at the hospital, and has smoothie and other stuff to bring up. Since Annie is still sleeping I head downstairs to help Joan carry everything up. I'm carefully carrying the tray with the smoothies in my right hand.

Annie walker: pov as soon as my eyes open I notice Ryan isn't in the room. I wonder where he went, as I'm laying in bed I notice that I have to pee. I know I'm supposed to push the button for help but I'm tired of needing someone's help. I can probably make it to the bathroom by myself, I don't need anyone's help. As I stand up I notice my legs are shaky and unstable, I push the IV pole/stand forward that has all my stuff on it with my left hand and take a few steps forward that is when i realize my legs are giving out and I'm about to hit the floor on instinct I try to grab onto the pole with my right hand also to steady myself better but wind up pulling on my IV very painfully as I fall over knocking the IV pole with the stuff on it over.

Ryan McQuaid: pov On the other side of Annie's door I can hear a loud thump. I quickly push the door open and notice Annie on the floor, her iv pole is knocked over. I put the drinks on the table while Joan hits the nurses button, I tell her to go to the nurses station and ask for her Dr's. I rush over to Annie to make sure she is okay. Let's hope she didn't have an episode and fall over. I see some blood on the floor and her left arm. She must have pulled out her IV as she fell over. She definitely looks startled. I ask her if she is okay. Annie says ot re. Did you have an episode, She says no i ave o ee. Sounds like she has to pee. you know you're not supposed to get out of bed without help

Annie walker: pov on't eed elp.

Ryan McQuaid: pov you definitely do need help, you heard what the Dr said you're not supposed to get up by yourself. I'm afraid to touch her in case she is injured. Nurse Judy and Annie's Dr's run in the room asking if everything is okay.

Joan: pov No, McQuaid was out of the room for a few minutes while Annie slept and she got up and tried to go to the bathroom by herself when she isn't allowed to do it alone.

Nurse Judy: pov I can tell she needs a new IV. Our main priority is making sure she isn't injured and the bleeding from her pulled out IV is stopped. I’m going to keep putting pressure on the spot while Dr Carpenter checks her out.

Dr Carpenter: pov first things first lets fix her nasal oxygen tube then get her on the bed so we have space to work, Dr Rosen can you carefully help me lift Annie on to the bed. We need to make sure none of her other wires got pulled out. I check her heart rate which is a little elevated, I will give her some meds once the new IV is in. I readjust her wires.

Dr Rosen: pov i’m just going to check and make sure Annie didn't make her concussion worse with the fall. Everything looks okay, but I'm going to keep an eye on her closely. She might have a headache later due to the fall agitating her concussion. She has scans tomorrow, but i might move her scan up to tonight

Dr Carpenter: pov her arm should stop bleeding soon, Annie can you tell me if anywhere else hurts. If it's easier you can point with your right hand. Looks like she is pointing to her left upper arm. It definitely looks like it is starting to bruise. It might need to be X-rayed. Nurse Judy let's check and make sure her accidentally pulling out the IV didn't cause any damage to her arm.

Nurse Judy: pov I have Ryan McQuaid put pressure on the spot that is bleeding while I put in a new IV. I’m going to have to use the back of Annie's right hand for the new IV spot. We already used her right arm when she first came in, after a few days we switched to her left arm. I know she is going to hate it. Once the IV is in I tape it good, then i have Dr Rosen help me by holding her right hand flat so I can put the arm board/TLC splint we use on children and adults who pull out their IVs on there hand I then wrap it up and put tape on it so it can't be pulled out, it also makes it hard for your hand to move.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Annie is going to hate where the new IV is placed. Her left arm is still bleeding.

Annie walker: pov I don't like where the new IV is placed and my left arm is killing me plus I'm so upset that I fell.

Nurse Judy: pov Let's take a look at her left arm, that looks awful. It's already turning black and blue with some purple in it. Let's clean the area and see how bad it is, then we can wrap it and put some ice on it. It's pretty swollen already. The ice should help with the swelling.

Dr Rosen: pov since I don't think the fall caused her concussion to worsen I will clear her to have some pain meds because her arm is going to be killing her, they might make her sleepy.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Annie said she had to pee. Can we get her to the bathroom before the pain pills set in. Once in the bathroom I help her pull her pants down and when she is done going to the bathroom I help her wipe, nurse Judy then carefully helps her wash her hands. The Dr's mention Annie might be miserable for a bit and what symptoms to look out for with her arm. I can tell the pain meds are starting to take effect, let's also push some antibiotics. Part 16

Leighanne: pov what do you mean leave her alone, can't she come with you. I thought she worked at McQuaid security with you.

Ryan McQuaid: pov she does and at the moment she is in the hospital.

Leighanne: pov oh my is everything okay, what happened if you don't mind me asking.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I don't have all the info but some guy tasered her in the parking lot of McQuaid security, it was bad I was on a business trip and flew home immediately. Arthur, one of my employees and a father figure to Annie found her on the ground as he was pulling into the parking lot. He started cpr on her and had to use the paddles 3 times to get her back. She has prior cardiac history and Myocarditis so they are keeping a close eye on her. She also has a moderate concussion which is doing better.

Leighanne: pov that sounds awful, by the way what is Myocarditis?

Ryan McQuaid: pov it's a heart condition.

Leighanne: pov the way you said it made it seem like she had a heart condition and something else wrong.

Ryan McQuaid: pov that's because she had cardiac issues before the Myocarditis, a few years ago before i met her, annie and her boyfriend at the time were in the kitchen making dinner and talking about taking a trip when her boss snuck into the house and shot the both of them, her then boyfriend died in the kitchen and she was in critical condition with 2 bullet wounds in her chest, she had emergency heart surgery to repair the damage and was in a coma for a bit afterwards her boss then dressed as a Dr snuck into Annie's room and tried to suffocate her thankfully someone noticed and while everyone was focused on helping Annie she escaped. Her boss was later killed while falling to surrender.

Leighanne: pov I can't believe that happened to her that is so insane. I hope she feels better soon.

Ryan McQuaid: pov thanks, I just don't know when she is getting out and if she will be cleared to fly. Then we have physical therapy, speech therapy because her words are a little slurred from the tasering then all these follow up appointments and test they want to run on her, because they are concerned about her valve damage from her Myocarditis

Leighanne: pov she has valve damage, that doesn't sound like fun.

Ryan McQuaid: pov it isn't.

Leighanne: pov I have to go one of the kids is calling for me, talk to you later.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I head back into the room and decide to check my emails while I wait for Joan, nurse Bonnie is carefully checking Annie's vitals so she doesn't wake her up. The door opens to reveal Joan with baby Mack who she picked up from the sitter.

Joan Campbell: pov hey Ryan how's Annie doing.

Ryan McQuaid: pov okay, how did you get Mack here babies aren't allowed on this

ward.

Joan Campbell: pov I have my ways plus I mentioned how it would help her feel better.

Ryan McQuaid: pov it's been a few minutes since Joan arrived and it looks like Annie is waking back up from her nap.

Annie: pov an I ave o ee.

Ryan McQuaid: pov you know it's hard to understand you and you should write down what you want to say. she writes i have to pee, okay let me help you up.

Joan Campbell: pov is everything okay.

Ryan McQuaid: pov yes Annie just has to pee, let me hit the button so nurse Bonnie can help us.

Joan Campbell: pov once Annie is back in bed I place Mack next to her which makes her so happy. I just hope he doesn't accidentally pull one of her cords. I remind her to watch his hands. We chat for a bit about the case and how we are getting nowhere so far. I’ve only had to tell Mack once not to play with the cords, he is definitely getting sleepy. Annie's eyes are clearly still moving weird, Ryan says it's actually getting better her eyes are moving less which the Dr said is a good thing and so far the eeg hasn't picked up any seizure activity which is a good thing. Look at that they are both asleep snuggling. I think I should go. I carefully pick Mack up from the bed and carry him out to the car so we can go home.

Ryan McQuaid: pov since Annie is already asleep i decided to get in my pajamas and get comfortable. My brother Jeff left me a text asking if everything is okay. I decide to head into the hallway and call him letting him know everything is okay. He tells me how his day was hanging out with the guy from his meeting. Glad you had a great time. Bye, I will call you tomorrow. I wake to sunlight pouring into the room, it looks like Annie slept through the night. Nurse Judy is filling me in on her vitals which look good. I quickly shower while she is still sleeping. All 3 Dr's should be in the room soon to go over some things.

Nurse Judy: pov it looks like Annie is waking up. She is trying to rub the sleep from her eyes. Do you have to go to the bathroom? It sounds like she says yes.

Annie: pov Ryan helps me out of bed while Nurse Judy holds my wires out of the way, the walk to the bathroom is short thankfully my legs cooperate. While I'm peeing, the nurse gets my toiletries so I can brush my teeth. Ryan is making sure I don't fall over while I put tooth paste on my tooth brush.

Nurse Judy: pov me and Ryan help Annie back to bed.

Dr Rosen: pov good to see you awake already, I need to take a look at your eyes and then look at the read out on the eeg monitor if everything looks good It can be removed. To be continued. …………

Part 15

Annie: pov oo uch ll f is.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I know it's too much for you but with your medical history it's better to play it safe. How about if the Dr's say it's okay I cuddle with you in bed. Annie nods her head yes. 

Annie: pov  izzy, mmy eels nny.

Dr Rosen: pov what is she saying.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I think the eye thing is making her dizzy and nauseous. 

Dr Rosen: pov Nurse Judy can you push some nausea meds. we are all set, I will stop by later to check on her. 

Ryan McQuaid: pov can I cuddle with Annie is that okay, just sitting in bed holding her.

Dr Rosen: pov that should be fine as long as the monitors don't get disconnected. 

Dr carpenter: pov her vitals seem to be doing better,

Dr Rosen: pov I want her to drink a lot of water to flush out that other medication in case it's what caused this. 

Ryan McQuaid: pov is there something you can give her to help with the weird eye thing. 

Dr Rosen: pov nothing came up on the scan so we actually don't know what is causing it.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I know what that means, there is nothing you can do for it at the moment.

Dr Rosen: pov yep she just has to wait it out and if it gets worse or if she gets any weird symptoms let us know. 

Ryan McQuaid: pov nurses Judy is making sure Annie is okay and her wires don't get tangled while I get in bed. I lower the railing on the right side of the bed and carefully climb in, her monitors are on the left side. 

Nurse Judy: pov I make sure he doesn't get tangled in Annie's wires. He is rubbing her back while her head is resting on his chest.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I can tell Annie is crying. Hey everything is okay, I know it's uncomfortable but try to take a nap.

Annie: pov okay. 

Nurse Judy: pov I will be back in a bit to check on her. 

Ryan McQuaid: pov hey nurse Judy can you shut the lights out maybe she will fall asleep and feel better.

Auggie Anderson: pov on the way to the hospital I decide to stop for some food that way Ryan won't have to leave Annie's side. Natasha let's get him something easy to eat like a sandwich, I text him asking him what type of sandwich he wants. 

Natasha: pov Auggie why don't you sit at one of the tables that way when I order you can help me carry the food out to the car, it will make it easier because carrying the sodas and the bag with the sandwiches is going to be hard. After ordering what me and Auggie want, I order what Ryan wants, the smoked brisket. In the parking lot of the hospital I hand Auggie the bag with the sandwiches while I carry the thing with the drinks. The walk to Annie's room is short, Ryan texted me letting me know Annie was sleeping and the light was off. 

Ryan McQuaid: pov i’m so thankful that Auggie is bringing me some food. Nurse Judy is checking on Annie's vitals which wakes her up by accident.

Nurse Judy: pov sorry for waking you up. Did you sleep okay? 

Annie: pov i guess. I can still feel my eyes twitching but not as bad.

Nurse Judy: pov i need to let Dr Rosen know you're up can i turn on the lights so he can check your eyes. Sounds like she said sure. 

Dr Rosen: pov good to see you up Annie, i’m going to look in your eyes this won't hurt. Her eyes are definitely still twitching but not as bad. I check the read out for the eeg machine so far I don't see any seizure activity but will continue to monitor till morning, how's the headache you had earlier. 

Annie: pov gone now. 

Dr Rosen: pov sounds like she said gone now, that's good to hear.

Nurse Judy: pov Annie it's dinner time what would you like to eat you can have another smoothie, oatmeal or the heart healthy soup. 

Annie: pov oup 

Ryan McQuaid: pov she wants soup. Hey Auggie how are you, him and Natasha are walking into Annie's room with our food 

Auggie: pov I'm good, me and Natasha are having a great time traveling the world. With Annie being in the hospital I'm trying  to make the most of  my time with her while I'm here in town.  

Ryan McQuaid: pov nurse Judy is back with Annie's soup. I raise the bed and get her settled comfortably so she can eat. I can tell Annie is struggling to get the spoon to her mouth. 

Auggie: pov Annie definitely sounds very frustrated. 

Annie: pov with my eyes moving weirdly it's hard getting the spoon from the bowl into my mouth, on the first try I spill the soup.

Ryan McQuaid: pov here let me help you Annie. I pick up the spoon and feed her the soup while I update Auggie on Annie. He talks about all the cool places they have been to while traveling. I can tell Annie is done because she is pushing my hand away saying what sounds like no more full. 

Auggie: pov hey Ryan what is Annie saying. 

Ryan McQuaid: pov no more she is full. I eat my sandwich while they talk. Auggie mentions they should be leaving, Annie needs her sleep. My phone is ringing. I quickly walk into the hall and answer it before it wakes Annie who is asleep. It's Joan asking if she can stop by on the way home from work, sure. 

Joan Campbell: pov do you need me to bring anything like food. 

Ryan McQuaid: pov no i’m good Auggie brought me food a few minutes ago. My phone is ringing again. It's my sister Leighanne calling, I wonder why she is calling. Hey what's up, is everything okay with the kids.

Leighanne: pov yeah they just won't stop bugging me asking if you're coming to the gender reveal, it's okay if you can't because of work. You can always come down another time. But I would definitely like to meet your fiance at some point.

Ryan McQuaid: pov actually I talked with my fiance annie about your gender reveal and she said I should go but I don't want to leave her alone. To be continued. ……..

Part 12

Annie: pov it was the last thing on my mind i got diagnosed with Myocarditis and then everything with Chicago happened

Ryan McQuaid: pov have you had any problems with your teeth since the last time you went to the dentist.

Annie: pov I'm not sure, maybe.

Ryan McQuaid: pov with you having Myocarditis and being on medication you probably have a higher risk for oral health issues, I think you need to make a dentist appointment for when you get out of the hospital or I can make one with my dentist for you he is amazing by the way a few of my employees actually go to him.

Annie: pov that's fine you can make the appointment for me, I want to shower so bad

Ryan McQuaid: pov the Dr said not yet I know it's frustrating but you have to wait.

Annie: pov ugh this nasal oxygen is bothering me I just can't wait to get rid of it.

Ryan McQuaid: pov soon you just have to be patient. Annie is signaling me over with her hand, She is grabbing my hand pulling me closer to her. What do you want?

Annie: pov is I slurred.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Annie suddenly kisses me, I pull away telling her this can't go any further only kissing. She slurred what sounds like why to me. Because you are still struggling and can't get too stressed or excited at the moment. Nurse Judy is now back with the soup. I talk with Annie while she eats, which is hard for her. Can we talk about what happens if/when you get released.

Annie: pov it feels like that will never happen.

Ryan McQuaid: pov it will happen you just have to be patient. Nurse Judy walks in the room to check on Annie's vitals and take her empty soup bowl.

Dr. Carpenter: pov I would also like to see how she does without oxygen for a bit.

Nurse Judy: pov by the way the ear nose and Throat Dr should be here soon.

Dr Simone: pov hello you must be Annie Dr carpenter told me about what happened and your medical history, if you don't mind I would like to have a look down your throat. Definitely irritated, Annie can you speak so I can hear how your voice sounds. Let me know if at any point it hurts to talk. I want you to say Sally sells sea shells by the sea shore. I know it's a real tongue twister.

Annie: pov all ls ea lls y e ea ors. Ts ard to alk.

Dr Simone: pov okay thats enough it is definitely hard to understand her I can tell Annie is struggling to get the words out and for them to sound clear, there are 2 different tests we could run that are outpatient which means she wouldn't need sedation they both include a small tube going down her nose. They are called flexible laryngoscopy and videostroboscopy. Either tests will help us diagnose what is going on.

Ryan McQuaid: pov that sounds good any idea on when you want to do the tests, I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning.

Dr Simone: pov Since she is no longer on oxygen we can do it whenever, let me just clear it with her Dr first.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Annie looks sleepy, i decide to check my text the first is Arthur letting me know the guy still hadn't been caught yet. I text him thanks for the update. Next is my brother who texted me during a break in his meeting asking if he can bring me lunch since his meeting will end around lunch time. I reply, Annie is having a test done at the moment that will be nice.

Dr Simone: pov looks like she is cleared for the test, an orderly will be in with a wheelchair this test is usually done in my office/exam room. The monitors will come with us.

Dan the orderly: pov hi I'm here to take Ms walker to her test.

Ryan McQuaid: pov me and the orderly get Annie into the wheelchair a nurse is pushing the monitors while the orderly is pushing the wheelchair. I'm holding her hand on the way as we walk towards her exam room, looks like we are going to have to take the elevator to Dr Simone's office. Thankfully the ride in the elevator was short, once in her office Dan the orderly helps me get Annie on the exam chair, Dr Simone is setting up everything she needs. Nurse Judy is staying in the room with us.

Dr Simone: pov I spray the flexible laryngoscopy tube with numbing spray and spray inside her nostril this isn't going to be comfortable at all

Ryan McQuaid: pov as soon as the tube comes near Annie she looks freaked out, hey it's okay. No need to cry, don't panic, I got you. I’m rubbing circles on the back of her hand that doesn't have the IV, do you want me to hold you. She nods her head yes, with the help of nurse Judy and Dr Simone I get Annie to a standing position and then sit down with her on my lap.

Dr simone: pov Once she is comfortable Mr McQuaid gives me the all clear to start I slowly start to slide the tube down until it is in the right place. Annie looks like she wants to cough, it's okay you are doing great please don't cough. Can you say a few words for me.

Annie: pov it hurts to talk, I'm having a hard time getting the words out. It is also hard to breathe. I slur ard o athe

Dr simone: pov So far I don't see any damage to her voice box or other areas in her throat. Her throat does look swollen/inflamed that might be what is causing the pain and slurred words. I’m all done so I remove the tube. Something else might also be going on with her struggling to get her words out, it might be a muscle thing or neurological. That would need to be looked at with an ultrasound or a special scan. Nurse Judy mentions her oxygen numbers have gone down since she had been off the oxygen. I quickly place an oxygen mask on her face before she has an episode. Now Mr McQuaid Annie's throat is going to be numb for a bit so she will have to wait to eat, it might also be sore or a little irritated. The nurse can give her pain meds in a bit if it's bothering her. Also, she can have an ice pop once her throat is no longer numb. Annie looks like she is barely awake. I’m going to see if they have an opening in the ultrasound room, I will let you know if they do it will probably be around or after lunch time. To be continued. …………….

Part 11

Ryan McQuaid: pov Annie is back up so I hit the button for the nurse to come in the room.

Annie: pov i have to pee which comes out slurred it really is hard to talk.

Ryan McQuaid: pov a nurse is coming to help you. The Dr told you not to talk.

Nurse Bonnie: pov hi Annie I hear you have to go to the bathroom let's see if we can take care of that.

Ryan McQuaid: pov nurse Bonnie grabs her monitors and wires while i help Annie up and to the bathroom.

Annie: pov in the bathroom I pull my pants down and pee once that is done I pull my pants up while Ryan holds me up, I then wash my hands. Nurse Bonnie grabbed my toiletries so I can brush my teeth while I'm in the bathroom.

Ryan McQuaid: pov me and nurse Bonnie help Annie back to bed. I decided to put a movie on, she is now allowed to watch movies and TV shows since her concussion is doing better. It looks like she loves that stuffed animal I got her. The movie is now over and Annie is asleep so I head to the bathroom and change into some pajamas and brush my teeth. I grab my pillow and blanket and try to get comfortable. I'm going to be so stiff in the morning. It's now morning and nurse Judy is in the room checking Annie's vitals.

Nurse Judy: pov her vitals look good, both of her Dr's should be in here soon. Let me know when Annie is up so I can bring her some food.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I get dressed before the Dr's come in the room. Joan is dropping me off some coffee and breakfast on her way to work which is so nice.

Joan: pov has the Dr's been by yet.

Ryan McQuaid: pov no, but they should be by soon. Thanks for the coffee, egg sandwich and hash browns.

Joan: pov no problem, call me if you get an update on Annie.

Annie: pov I slowly open my eyes and realize it doesn't hurt so much to do so. Ryan is sitting next to me finishing his breakfast.

Ryan McQuaid: pov do you have to pee because I can call the nurse if you have to.

Annie: pov yes, very badly and my head hurts. My words are hard to get out and sound slurred. Ryan asks what I said which gets me angry, so I write it down as best I can.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I can tell Annie is getting frustrated by the fact that she is having trouble with her speech and feeding herself. Let's see if I can get you up by myself. I raise Annie's bed and help her move her legs to the edge than help her stand up. Nurse Judy is now in the room asking why Annie is up, because she has to pee really bad. The nurse grabs the pole with the machines on it while I help Annie to the bathroom.

Annie: pov when can I shower, I slur

Nurse Judy: pov you're not supposed to be talking.

Ryan McQuaid: pov after going to the bathroom me and nurse judy help Annie get changed into the pajamas auggie brought her then back in bed. By the way, can she have pain meds for her headache? Annie writes her question on some paper.

Nurse Judy: pov sure, let me get her some pain meds. That's up to your Dr's, plus you have stitches in the back of your head.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Dr Carpenter and Dr Rosen are both in her room. Is it safe to say you have the scan results with you.

Dr Rosen: pov yep the emergency head scan we took looks great only thing that came up was her concussion which is good news, as for the reason her words are slurred and she has trouble with them could be from the concussion, the breathing tube, her throat swelling/irritation from that and the nausea or from her being tasered. Also her issue with feeding herself doesn't look neurological.

Ryan McQuaid: pov are there tests we can do to see what is causing it.

Dr. Carpenter: pov yes there are a few, but I don't think shoving another tube down her throat to check for a cause will help at the moment, right now she needs to not talk and rest her voice and if the issue continues she might need speech therapy. I can have an ear, nose and throat dr take a look to see if they can see anything. This issue could be temporary or long term we won't know until later down the road. Her oxygen numbers look good so the nasal oxygen can be removed but we will continue to monitor it.

Ryan McQuaid: pov do you have a dry erase board it might be easier for Annie, if not I can get a friend to bring one.

Dr. Carpenter: pov I will have a nurse get one for her. I would also like to see how she does without oxygen for a bit.

Nurse Judy: pov here is your dry erase board, would you also like another ice pop before breakfast.

Annie: pov I write yes, pink is fine.

Nurse Judy: pov by the way what would you like for breakfast I can get you more heart healthy soup.

Annie: pov that's fine.

Ryan McQuaid: pov while Annie is eating her pink ice pop I'm checking my emails and Callender, crap I have a dentist appointment tomorrow morning. Maybe I can reschedule it.

Annie: pov you should go, oral health is very important I hear.

Ryan McQuaid: pov oh really when was the last time you went to the dentist. Annie suddenly has a guilty look on her face. Your guilty expression says it's been awhile. So when was the last time you went to the dentist, be honest with me.

Annie: pov before I went dark.

Ryan McQuaid: pov are you serious that's over a year almost 2, why didn't you go when you returned. To be continued. ………………

Part 7

Dr carpenter: pov Mr McQuaid Annie's oxygen numbers look good enough that me and Dr Rosen both agree we can lower her oxygen to just the nasal kind. If everything continues to look good she can possibly get her catheter removed and get up tomorrow to move around a tiny bit. If all goes well with that she can then have a shower.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Annie's eyes are starting to open, hey look your Dr's are in your room. They repeat to her what they told me.

Annie: pov Ryan raises my bed and helps me sit up in bed. On the paper I write, can I watch a movie or tv show?

Dr Rosen: pov sure,

Ryan McQuaid: pov Dr Rosen says Annie can watch something as long as it didn't have any flashing lights or anything that would bother her concussion. He passes along some great suggestions for TV shows and movies, which I picked one from.

Nurse Bonnie: pov would Annie like something to eat, she can have someone heart healthy soup if she wants it's different then before.

Annie: pov i write sure, that sounds nice since my throat is still irritated.

Nurse Bonnie: pov I can get you another ice pop if you want.

Ryan McQuaid: pov that would be great. Pink would be great. Nurse Bonnie is back with Annie's ice pop. Joan calls while Annie is eating her ice pop.

Joan: pov how's Annie doing since Arthur left, he said something about her throwing up.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Annie has been throwing up and she's had a bad headache they are monitoring her closely.

Joan: pov well I hope she feels better soon.

Annie: pov my head is starting to hurt more. Nurse Bonnie is back with my soup which looks amazing. Ryan has put on a movie for us.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Nurse Bonnie while you are here can you give Annie more pain meds it looks like her head is hurting sure.

Nurse Bonnie: pov sure no problem. I will let Dr Rosen know in case he wants to check on her before he leaves.

Ryan McQuaid: pov as i’m feeding Annie small spoonfuls of soup she puts her hand up and pushes the spoon away she can't be full this quickly.

Annie: pov all of a sudden I feel like I'm going to throw up.

Ryan McQuaid: pov the color suddenly drains from Annie's face she looks very green I manage to grab something to catch her barf. I hit the nurses button a few times thankfully nurse Bonnie arrived quickly with Dr Rosen who was on his way up. I let them know what is going on, nurse Bonnie runs to get Dr carpenter who should still be on shift.

Dr Rosen: pov I tell the other nurse who just arrived in the room to push more nausea meds and lower the lights. I also up her oxygen and put the mask back on. Dr. Carpenter arrives and pushes more heart meds. Her vitals should even out soon, with her concussion this type of nausea is normal; her body just can't handle it yet. I check to make sure she is okay.

Ryan McQuaid: pov the 2 Dr's on the night shift will be updated on her current condition in case they are needed. The movie is still playing on the tv. I can tell Annie is starting to get tired. I can hear her whimpering in pain again, I shut off the tv so it doesn't bother her. I decided to rub Annie's forehead for a while until she stops whimpering and quiets down, she must be asleep. The nurse said she will be back in a bit to check on Annie's vitals.

Nurse Bonnie: pov I quietly sneak into Annie's room in case she is sleeping. Her vitals look much better, the Dr's will decide in the morning if she can lose the oxygen or have it on a lower setting.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I can hear my phone ringing, I quickly answer it so it doesn't wake up Annie. It's my brother calling, I walk out of her room so I can talk on the phone. Hey Jeff what's up.

Jeff McQuaid: pov packing for my last minute business trip. That's actually why I'm calling you, my destination is near where you live and I wanted to know if you wanted to hang out and have some sibling bonding time.

Ryan McQuaid: pov sounds good to me, can you hold on one second Jeff. I've made my way to the nurses station on the cardiology ward, hey Beverly can you notify me if Annie wakes up before I'm back. I’m going for a short walk.

Beverly at the nurses station: pov sure can do.

Jeff McQuaid: pov Is everything okay, because if you are busy I can call back later.

Ryan McQuaid: pov no i’m good, just wanted to let Beverly at the nurses station know that I was taking a short walk and to notify me if Annie woke up while I was gone.

Jeff McQuaid: pov nurses station, is everything okay with Annie. Isn't she your fiance?

Ryan McQuaid: pov Yeah she's in the hospital.

Jeff McQuaid: pov you weren't in an accident were you.

Ryan McQuaid: pov No while I was on a business trip Annie got tasered in the parking lot of McQuaid security by a guy who is still in the wind. She's been in the hospital for 4 days, with her having Myocarditis they had to use the paddles on her 3 times in the parking lot before arriving at the hospital. The Dr's are monitoring her heart very closely; she also has a moderate concussion from falling to the ground.

Jeff McQuaid: pov did you say Myocarditis? What is that? Ryan explains what it is to me and how Annie doesn't really mention it to others. Is she okay, you mentioned the Dr's are monitoring her heart.

Ryan McQuaid: pov they are. They actually lifted her sedation this morning and took out her breathing tube which is good news. She definitely had a rough day with the vomiting she is sleeping right now, her vitals look good at the moment. To be continued. ……..…

Part 3

Joan Campbell: pov will this have any lasting effects on her health wise.

Dr Carpenter: pov it's too early to tell but if she makes it she probably will need some help for a bit until she recovers. We are also monitoring her heart closely.

Joan Campbell: pov did you say if she makes it.

Dr Carpenter: pov yes I did once Annie passes the 48 hours mark she should be out of the danger zone.

Joan Campbell: pov I call Augie and let him know what is going on. He and Natasha are overseas at the moment. He tells me to keep him updated, they are going to try and get a fight as soon as possible. Annie looks awful especially with that tube sticking out of her mouth and all the monitors. She has a special blood pressure cuff on her arm to monitor her blood pressure and a pulse ox-meter on her finger to measure her oxygen saturation. Ryan should be here soon. Mack is with the babysitter today.

Arthur Campbell: pov I step out of the room to call Costa, I wanted to know what was on the security footage.

Costa: pov hey Arthur, I went back and looked at the security footage and you can clearly see a guy talking with Annie pull out a taser and fire it, she hits the ground immediately unconscious. He seems to check on her, then runs.

Arthur Campbell: pov can you get facial recognition on the guy.

Costa: pov not sure.

Arthur Campbell: pov it might be the same guy who was in a hurry and almost hit my car as I was arriving in the parking lot. I explain what the car looks like to him. Back in the room Joan suggested I take the car and pick up McQuaid from the airfield.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Arthur was nice enough to pick me up from the airfield, Joan is in the room with Annie. Dr Carpenter updates me on her condition. He says they want to sedate her but with her concussion she needs to be woken up every now and then. Right now she is unconscious.

Dr Carpenter: pov once she wakes up and we see how her neurological function is she will then be sedated to give her body time to recover. Dr Rosen is the neurologist on her case he said her concussion isn't too severe. When Annie wakes up he will check on her to make sure she is okay.

Ryan McQuaid: pov how long before she wakes up.

Dr Carpenter: pov probably a few hours or by tomorrow morning.

Ryan McQuaid: pov I sit by her bed holding her hand. It's hard seeing Annie like this with a tube sticking out of her mouth, hooked up to a bunch of monitors. The nurses are constantly in her room checking her vitals.

Arthur Campbell: pov hey Ryan I'm going to head back to the office and help Costa to see if we can figure out why someone would taser Annie.

Ryan McQuaid: pov Before Joan heads back to work to help with the search for the guy she is going to get me a sandwich from the cafeteria.

Joan Campbell: pov here you go, keep me updated. I'm just a phone call away. I called Auggie earlier and he is trying to get a flight here.

Auggie Anderson: pov I managed to get a red eye flight for me and Tasha tonight, that way we can be at the hospital in the morning to visit Annie. Natasha, what do you want for dinner?

Ryan McQuaid: pov Joan texted me asking if I have eaten dinner, no why?

Joan Campbell: pov because I bought extra Chinese food for dinner and can bring you some if you want that way you don't have to leave Annie's room. Arthur knew what you usually order. Also, do you want me to drop by your apartment and get you some clothes/toiletries?

Ryan McQuaid: pov thanks that sounds amazing. Joan should be here in a bit Annie still hasn't woken up. A nurse has just walked in the room to check on Annie. Has there been an improvement in her condition?

Nurse Judy: pov right now her vitals aren't the best but she is doing better than before, Annie still isn't awake though, which the Dr isn't too concerned with if she isn't awake by tomorrow they will run a few extra tests to make sure everything is okay.

Joan Campbell: pov Ryan said the nurse was okay with me bringing food in Annie's room for him. The walk to the cardiac ICU is short. Hey Ryan, any update on Annie.

Ryan McQuaid: pov not much the nurse said she was doing a little better. Once I'm ready for bed I will change into my pj's which Joan brought me.

Joan Campbell: pov sorry I can't stay longer but I need to take over watching Mack so Arthur can continue looking into who hurt Annie. Calder wanted you to know the CIA is available to help. If you send me the security camera footage I can have Barber look at it, he might be able to get facial recognition to work on the guy in the video. Do you need me to have officers posted at her hospital room door? Or are your guys doing all the shifts?

Ryan McQuaid: pov I've got guys so no need to worry about that.

Auggie Anderson: pov hey Ryan just wanted to let you know I got a red eye flight so me and Tasha should be there at the hospital in the morning.

Ryan McQuaid: pov let me know what time your flight lands so I can have someone ready to pick you guys up.

.Nurse Judy: pov Mr McQuaid do you need a pillow or blanket before the night shift nurse takes over

Ryan McQuaid: pov yes a pillow and blanket should be fine, I'm a former navy seal I can sleep anywhere so this chair should be fine. I got Annie a fuzzy blanket and a cute stuffed animal to keep her company. To be continued. …..
