The Ranger Corps is the hot new baseball team in the Araluen major leagues.  It used to be the laughingstock of the league until new manager Crowley gave them a facelift.  Halt is the ace pitcher.  Jenny sells hot dogs and cotton candy in the stands.  Duncan is a hipster umpire.

Will is the brand-new recruited first baseman.  He wanted to be recruited to the Knights team, where his childhood friend Horace plays catcher.  He needs to prove his worth to the team, defeat his rival first baseman Morgarath on the Wargal baseball team, and, somehow, renew his friendship with Horace through a joint pick-up game against the local neighbourhood bully team, the Boars (and their ugly outfielders: Alda, Byrn, and Jerome).
