I mean, I would understand keeping the Romanov women with the last name ‘Romanov’ (as Russian tradition gives them an -a or -na), but Emperor Nicholas? Why not Ts/Czar Nicholas and Ts/Czarina Alexandra? I feel like it’s pretty commonly known what a Ts/Czar is.
Tsar itself derives from the term Caesar which is an imperial title, but it had more Eastern connotations. Peter I didn’t cease the Tsardom so much change the terminology to match the culture of the West, which he was so obsessed with.
