Mini-review:

I have to start by saying that I knew basically nothing about the manga or the anime before watching this. The central concept is truly fascinating, but even without being familiar with the source material, I could tell they tried to fit too much stuff into a two-hour runtime. And it doesn't help that the film reveals its cards way too soon, in my humble opinion. Still, the final result is a rather entertaining film. Riho Yoshioka is a great leading lady, and her chemistry with Koshi Mizukami is truly amazing. The CGI leaves a lot to be desired, but the art team makes up for it with the beautiful production design and costumes. So yeah, Kowloon Generic Romance shares a lot of the same issues as many live-action adaptations, but its stronger points definitely made me interested in the manga.
