World short-course Championships training camp covered by the media!

The training camp which started yesterday, is a part of the preparation for the upcoming World short-course Championships was being covered by the media today.

As many as 14 media gathered in JISS to watch the training camp and interviewing the representative athletes.  

The athletes and the coaches interview was held before the training started. They were asked about their comments about the upcoming Worlds that will be held on December. This time the team it will faces a new challenge as a new head coach has been chosen for both men and women team.

Ryosuke Irie (Itoman Toshin) who is going to join the team after 2 years absent comment, “I want to face this race as a challenge since short-course is not my strong point.”

Last year bronze medalist, Kanako Watanabe (JSS Tateishi) said she is looking forward to compete with the swimmier around the world.

An aggressive comments came out from Kosuke Hagino, who keep improving his time ever since the Worlds in Istanbul. “I want to focus on the turn-technique and break the world-record in Men’s 400m Individual Medley.”. The head-coach, Norimasa Hirai, commented, “I have to admit that the athletes was lack of preparation during Asian Games. This time as a new head coach, I am trying to improve the condition, as well as the communication and the unity of the team with this training camp.”

We are looking forward to improve the team’s strength during this full-week training camp!

"Coming back from despair" In 2006, he joined the Japanese national team for the first time to compete at Pan Pacific Competitions. At such a young age (18), he got the "golden ticket" to Beijing Olympics to swim in the 200m backstroke event. He finished fifth. Since then, the desire to medal becomes stronger. During the world record breaking year in 2009, he won the silver medal in the 200m backstroke at the World Championships(Rome). At World Championships in Shanghai, he was not only won a medal in 200 m but also in the 100m. He also won three medals from 100m, 200m backstroke, and 200m medley relay at London Olympics. However, he did not medal in World Championships 2013 (Barcelona), that was the toughest time for him where he try to keep some distance from the pool. Around those time, he involved in some activities such as helping Tokyo to win the Olympic bid. That successful result bring his passion for swimming back. In April 2014, he showed his great race at Japan Open after a while and he is eyeing to take over the world once again.
