“Awakened new hope for men’s short-distance freestyle”
During his high school time, although he won 2 consecutive race in 50m Freestyle at inter-high school championships, he was still lack of stamina to swim for 100m distance. He later joined Waseda University in 2013 where he start to gain his ability on 100m and granted him to represent Japan at the Universiade. During the last day of Universiade, final competition was a medal race on 400m Men’s Medley Relay. At one point they were overtaken by the United State team but then put on a phenomenal catch-up and won the silver medal as a result. The after-effect of the race, Nakamura start to raise his standard as he sliced the 47.95 seconds during the 400m Medley Relay at Nationals. His time were faster than Japan’s then-fastest, Shinri Shioura, and brought the victory to Tokyo. In 2014 Japan short-course National Championships, he won in 100m Freestyle section. He has now been named one of Japanese top-swimmer in short-distance freestyle and there will be a very high expectation placed.
