so i'm watching x files rn w two different friends, quinn and emmy. im way further ahead w quinn (s05) and she's seen the show before. she tends to skip some episodes, esp ones where theres elements of or straight up SA (i do not talk about or go in depth about SA in this post).

with emmy, we're on s04 and we're watching everything. all this preamble to say, i haven't seen season 4 episode 20 "small potatoes".

david duchovny's acting as the shapeshifter was very cute and funny and 🤤💜 plus we get this absolutely adorable GIF of mulder!!!

but holy shit was eddie van blundht such a disgusting fucking freak???? it was so damn uncomfortable watching the later half of the episode where he gets away and impersonates mulder. like what do you MEAN both skinner AND SCULLY (??!?!?) don't fucking notice how weird mulder's been since coming back?? (i guess they do but not enough..)

and scully... scuulllyy..... that ending... i wanted her to notice. even just a little bit. is it truly too much to ask for the writers to both tease us with physical MSR (even tho its not rly him and its super uncomfortable) AND for scully to then notice that's not HER mulder? ;_;

btw this was my reaction to finding out that the man in this scene was not in fact mulder :(

i was so sad and disappointed :( its so upsetting :( youre telling me mulder would never look so giddy with a big beaming dorky smile outside scully's door? :(

if you're reading this and have thoughts on this episode (opposing thoughts too) i would love to hear them!!!!! im so glad fanfiction exists bc i was wondering earlier abt if anyone ever made alternative versions of this episode and there's a a lot thank god. if anyone has any particular fic recs for this episode please send them over...
