Friday morning, Keith covering for Kevin while he’s #rollinginCostaRica. We warmed up then got right into some more options from the mount. This is really great stuff since I often find myself in this position but don’t have many submissions besides the cross collar choke. First we drilled just transitioning into the s-mount to get more comfortable with the position.
From a mount, slide your right knee up so it’s level with opponent’s head.
Grab behind opp’s head with both hands as you sit back on your right heel with your weight off to that side.
Hook the left leg up and over so your thigh is focusing your weight on opp’s diaphragm. You’ll need to lean your head across opp’s body to get this right.
Plant your left foot with your heel on the mat under opp’s right armpit, holding them in place.
Making sure your hips are turned almost perpendicular to opp, lean forward to isolate their left arm, then hook your left arm around it and grab your right shoulder.
Post your right hand on the mat next to opp’s head and pivot your body into an arm bar.
S-mount to reverse arm bar:
From a mount, slide your right knee up so it’s level with opponent’s head.
Grab behind opp’s head with both hands as you sit back on your right heel with your weight off to that side.
Hook the left leg up and over so your thigh is focusing your weight on opp’s diaphragm. You’ll need to lean your head across opp’s body to get this right.
Plant your left foot with your heel on the mat under opp’s right armpit, holding them in place, bringing your weight over to your left leg and picking up your right leg so it’s in position to move.
Hook your right arm around opp’s left arm and grab your opposite shoulder as you bring your right leg on top of opp’s face.
Fall back toward opp’s legs while isolating the arm with the right and grabbing his outside pant leg or belt with your left.
If opp is locking his arms in tight and not giving you options for an arm bar, pick up his right arm and slide your left foot under it in the same s-mount position.
Roll over opp’s head to get on your back with him in a triangle, locking the legs as you roll.
Lots of really great, meaty stuff here. We did some positional sparring from the mount after this and then some free rolling.
