Teknik Cekikan BJJ Super Keren: Ninja Choke

Friday morning with Professor Chris filling in for Kevin. We warmed up, got some drill time, and then covered a couple of simple, high percentage attacks from side control.
Arm bar:
Opponent needs to have their far arm over your right shoulder. If they’re trying to frame, you need to push their arm over or bait them into it.
Reach your right arm around opp’s far arm and grab your own right lapel to lock them in.
Pull opponent toward you (onto their side) using their trapped arm.
Grab opp’s trapped wrist with your left hand.
Step your left foot around to opp’s back and use your shin to block them from flattening back out.
Rotate and fall into the arm bar.
North-south choke:
Then some live rolls. Osssss.

Friday morning with Kevin. After warm-ups we got some drill time and then got into a nice arm triangle setup from top of side control.
From top of side control with your right arm underhooked under opp’s left, you want to bait them into fighting for that underhook.
Lean back a little on the right side to make some space that they want to fight for. When they reach in, swim your right hand under and place it on the mat so their elbow is higher up towards their head.
If they try to reestablish the underhook with that arm, use that opportunity when they get light to push it up even further.
Reach your left arm under opp’s left armpit.
Push their left arm over their face and bring your forehead to the mat to pin it against their face.
Slide your right knee over onto opp’s belly.
Work your way across to opp’s left side and go belly down on the mat, bringing your hips all the way down.
Wrap up your arms in the RNC position with your left hand in the crook of your right elbow and squeeze to get the tap.
Some positional sparring after that and then live rolls. Osssss.

Wednesday morning no gi with Kyvann. We started things off by drilling some guard passes and got some nice details for this knee cut:
Grab both opp’s ankles and push them to your left and step your right foot in between their legs and bring your right knee down to the mat to staple their right thigh to the ground.
Weave your right arm around opp’s left calf and place your palm down on their right thigh.
With your left hand, grip around left side of opp’s neck.
Opponent will usually try to frame against you with their arms, but that don’t matter. Slide down opp’s thigh, away from them, and then pass into side control.
We also worked on some of the finer points of creating pressure and making your opponent uncomfortable. Kyvann stressed that you should take your time and make them suffer before rushing to a submission. Here’s what we worked on:
From top of side control with crossface, opponent will try to frame.
If their wrist is on your left shoulder, you can grab their elbow with both hands and lean your shoulder in to go for the wrist lock.
They will either tap or give up the arm for an arm bar.
Some positional rolls and live after that. Good stuff.

Tuesday morning with the mighty Dima filling in for Keith. After warm-ups, we got into two nice big boy submissions from side control:
From top of side control with crossface, pop up to knee on belly with your left hand holding opp’s near side collar.
Opponent will turn towards you and push your knee with their left hand.
Get a catspaw grip with your right hand on opp’s left sleeve and push it across their body and under your belly.
Get down low and give some chest to chest pressure while maintaining the grips.
Step your left foot over opp’s head so your foot is on the mat and your ankle is against their neck.
Bring your head down onto the mat by opp’s left hip for the submission.
Then another from side control:
From top of side control with crossface, opponent will try to frame against your neck with their left arm.
Use your head to push their arm and get your head inside so their left arm is over your right shoulder.
Bring your left arm over opp’s head and wrap both arms around their left arm.
Pressure down with your chest and walk yourself foward so you straighten their arm out. Your right forearm should be just above their elbow (between elbow and shoulder).
Bring your left leg over opp’s head with your knee on the mat and snake it around opp’s head.
Straighten opp’s trapped left arm for the straight arm lock.
We also worked on a defense against an opponent who bends their arm—just get a kimura grip and finish. Then some live rolls.
