I. SEPTEMBER 2018 IN THE PRACTICE ROOM

winwin slides next to taehee on the wooden floors, her cheek propped up on jaehyun’s shoulder as she leaned on him. “what are you guys doing?” he asked, peeking behind the younger girl’s shoulder to see what was on the phone (it was jaehyun’s) that the duo beside him shared. his eyebrows raise in confusion when he saw what was typed on the search bar.

“it’s not even february, why are you guys searching for good restaurants on valentine’s day?”

“we’re dating.”

haechan spits out his water and goes into a coughing fit while everyone stops what they were doing. both taeyong’s and doyoung’s eyes widen at what taehee had just said, the latter’s jaw dropping to the floor. mark doesn’t even know how to react because there’s no way she could have said that so easily (with the topic being so controversial in the industry and all; geez, is she really being serious?).

“is this a joke?”

“for real? seriously?”

“since when?”

questions were thrown left and right by taeyong and doyoung, winwin adding to the mix (yet it was more out of excitement than shock). he taps on taehee’s shoulder repeatedly, and she turns her attention to him from the screen in front of her. “since when?” he asks again.

“the third day of practice,” a smile gradually takes over taehee’s features. it was amusing to see the members get so excited over this.

“woah,” jungwoo releases a breath he didn’t know he was holding. he slowly brings his hands together and claps, until everyone in the practice room was cheering and applauding with him. you can hear johnny laugh over jaehyun’s shy smile, yuta joining in soon after.

taeil cups his hands over his mouth and shouts, “i hope you guys last long!” causing the group to get louder. taeyong still can’t process what was happening, “are they really dating? how come— how come we haven’t noticed? hold on, i think i’m getting lightheaded,” he slightly stumbles a few steps back and doyoung holds him for support. taehee sees this and becomes genuinely concerned, “guys, this isn’t really—“

“yah jaehyun-ah,” yuta calls from his seat. “if something happens...” the members watch him point to the side of neck with his thumb, slowly dragging it to the other side with a menacing glare. the members laugh as he keeps his ‘dad mode’ act on, “you got it?”

haechan, now having recovered from his coughing fit earlier, follows through by singing the familiar tune of ‘the wedding march’. knowing the boys, taehee hears everyone join in on chorus (except for their leader who was still trying to take in the newfound information. “get yourself together!” doyoung tells him, already tired from having to keep him up).

“just let them be,” she hears jaehyun say beside her. taehee playfully rolls her eyes but complies nonetheless.

suddenly, the door to the practice room opens and the members all freeze when they hear the footsteps of their manager enter the room. he starts to get confused when he notices the sudden change in their atmosphere, “what’s going on?” taeyong’s lips visibly pale and all the more his legs feel like jelly with the thought of having to come up with a quick excuse.

winwin worriedly glances to taehee. “we were just joking around,” she chuckles, going to stand up and brush imaginary dust off her sweats. “we just got surprised when you entered. were we loud?”

their manager shakes his head, “i just got worried for a moment. carry on, i’m just here to remind you guys that the instructor is coming so you can stretch now to start early.” he gives them one last smile and heads to the corner with a nod, probably to read and send important messages with his phone.

doyoung slowly turns around to the group and exhales shakily, closing his eyes for the dramatic effect. this erupted laughter from most of them, yet it wasn’t long before they did as they were told.

“are you guys seriously dating?” mark mumbles to taehee when they go stretch beside each other. “well, we go on dates,” she whispers back, switching to the other foot as she did lounges.

“..... but?”

“we’re not really.... together, if you know what i mean.”

mark’s mouth parts open as he nods understandingly. he licks his lips before asking another question in hesitation, “do you really like him?”

taehee looks up from her position on the floor and raises a brow at him, “what does that mean?”

the boy blinks rapidly for a few times before shaking his head, “nothing. sorry if that came out wrong.” taehee doesn’t reply and instead walks away to their bags. mark begins to worry that he might have said something mean until she comes back with two water bottles, one in each hand, and gives the other to mark while she sat back on the floor. “thanks,” mark says when he finishes warming up.

taehee tries to reassure him that he doesn’t have to worry about anything. “it’s just fun and games, mark,” again, his feelings become jumbled with the way she so casually let that out. she twists her tumbler cap open and drinks from it, leaving mark confused at her words.

he shakes his head and lets it be. unknowingly, mark doesn’t question her relationship with jaehyun ever since that day.

later when taehee goes to check the time on her phone, her eyebrows raise in surprise at the number of messages she received from the members. a few chuckles slip past her lips while she scans through them.

that taehee being tipsy and jaehyun carrying her on her back makes me miss jaehee so much NO 😭😭😭

jaehyun just snorts after taehee asks him if he could give her shoes a massage instead, but then his dimples would pop out and taehee boops one of them before dozing off on his shoulder :(

and even after carrying her to her and mark’s shared room and knowing she’s in good hands, he’ll still drop by their room to check if she’s okay (mark doesn’t drink too much when he knows taehee did so like he’s fine lol HAHAHA)

also ,, i saw this video awhile ago about johnny explaining the concept of the neozone album, and his sentence cut off at some point so it sounded like he said, “it’s about how we want to kick away our fans,” and i just imagined how jaehyun and taehee would immediately make eye contact as they sat next to each other and just try to hold in their giggles for the rest of the interview :(

[N’-71] Apple Music Up Next Waiting Room

“right now, we are in the apple music up next waiting room,” jungwoo said as he made his way up the stairs leading to another area where some of the members were staying. his face lights up when he sees jaehyun and taehee conversing animatedly as they lay back on the couch; the girl nudges jaehyun on the shoulder with the back of her hand while the other one covers the laugh that was escaping out of her. a mishevious look gleams in jungwoo’s eyes as he walks towards them, the pair’s laughter turning into giggles until he stands right in front of them.

jungwoo grabs one of jaehyun’s hands as he faces the camera towards the couple, taehee catching the playful wink jungwoo sends her way before speaking. “what are you guys doing?”

“jaehyunie and i-“

jungwoo chokes on his spit at her ‘slip up’, quickly covering it with a light chuckle, “jaehyunie?”

the smug expression on taehee’s face tells him, ‘if you’re gonna play risky, i’m gonna do it too’ and it slightly scares jungwoo how taehee seems like she was going to tell the camera, everyone in the room, that she’s been going out on dates with the member who holds his hand at this exact moment.

relaxed, taehee answers him. “yeah,” she tilts her head towards the side where jaehyun sits, “we’re playing yaja time.”

jungwoo lets out a short laugh at her excuse, letting go of jaehyun’s hand to card his fingers through his hair. “what did you do for yaja time?”

glancing at the both of them, jaehyun gets an idea of jungwoo’s initial plan and internally smirks at taehee’s quick countermove. he wanted to join their little game too so, he leans back against the couch and puts an arm around taehee (but not close enough to say that they were cuddling). jungwoo notices this and thinks that this is how his plan came to be, the quick witted couple stunned him.

“i’m a good person,” taehee runs her hand through her hair and sits forward. “i asked jaehyun to eat the celery with the sauce ‘cause he likes stuff like that.”

jaehyun then asks jungwoo to try it as winwin comes by and plops down the other side of taehee. his eyes looked wide and expecting, making taehee beam at his cuteness. “why are you looking at me like that?”

winwin quickly makes sure the camera doesn’t catch their conversation before whispering, “you’re playing a dangerous game- you know that, right?” even if his words sounded serious, it was still clear how winwin was amused at the whole situation with how the corners of his mouth were raised into a smile. besides jaehyun and taehee, the other members felt the thrill too of helping them hide their relationship from everyone, including the staff (it was relatively easy though, they weren’t one for pda). 

“i told them we were playing yaja time,” taehee then playfully squints her eyes at winwin, the latter pushing her back gently as he shakes his head. “nope, i don’t want to play with you,” winwin says. 

entertained at the older member’s cute reaction, a small smile plays on taehee’s lips as she reclines fully on the couch; jungwoo was just about to leave. she lightly kicks jungwoo’s leg from behind teasingly, a small noise of surprise coming from the latter at the action. “okay, okay! i’m leaving,” jungwoo laughs, the camera catching the lazy smile that hangs on taehee’s face. 

once jungwoo has fully left the room, winwin shuffles closer to the couple, the bright look on his face made jaehyun and taehee laugh at his adorableness. “so,” his cheekbones protrude in excitement, “are you guys planning to do anything while we’re here?”

seoul, south korea (november 2, 2018)

taehee and jaehyun walk together side by side along the dimly lit streets of seoul, their coats keeping them warm from the cold at two in the morning. the sound of their shoes crunching against the pavement fills the silence, no one was there except them.

taking her bottom lip in between her teeth, an idea goes off in taehee’s head. she slyly cranes her neck towards jaehyun, the hand in his pocket going to adjust his dark cap.  

the older boy feels her stare on him, and she doesn’t miss the shy smile that paints his lips before he turns to her, “what?” he could hear the smirk in her voice as she held out her hand to him. “wanna hold hands?”

ears turning red, jaehyun looks away as a soft chuckle escapes him. she giggles, “what? isn’t that what people are supposed to do on dates?”

taehee nudges him with her elbow, “come on, it’s not like we hadn’t already. we’re just holding hands.”

jaehyun shakes his head in amusement, “you don’t just say it like that so suddenly.”

taehee rolls her eyes, choosing to wrap her arm around his instead. “why? are you getting shy?”

she stops them both in their tracks and moves to stand in front of him, jaehyun refusing to look at her in the eye; the stars above them suddenly interesting him. a grin slowly makes its way on taehee’s face as jaehyun comments on the many stars he could see that night. “look at you,” she says, “are you blushing? your ears are turning red.”

jaehyun’s dimples poke his cheeks before he finally makes eye contact with her, his heart fluttering at the playful look in her eyes. she really was charmingly adorable. smiling, he shakes his head. “not at all,” he breathes.

“well, i’m blushing. you make me blush. all the time.”

jaehyun’s lips part slightly, letting it grow into a sweet smile as his eyes turn to crescents. “really?”

taehee nods, “mm.” jaehyun opens his mouth to say something but she quickly turns on her heel and walks forward, a smug smirk playing on her lips as she held her head up high. “but i’m the one who asked you out so...”

she twists her body to look at the man that stands still behind her, his eyebrows raised expectantly. he saw the mischievous glint in her eyes, disappearing when she bites her lip and shakes her head instead. 

she takes a few steps to him and raises her hand in between them. bemused, jaehyun watches as she wraps her fingers around his wrist and pulls his hand out of his pocket, smoothly interlacing hers with his. “it’s cold,” taehee looks up at jaehyun, pleased to see the soft smile he gives her. 

“let’s go home.”
