It had been an awful day. The night before she had felt sick because someone had been eating meat and the smell had reached her -confirming that no, it wasn't something she could stand anymore, and making the fear that lab work might not be doable for her grow - and even if she had waited for dawn before going to bed, so she could keep her new room's window open and let the light in, she had had such horrible nightmares that Coulson had heard her screaming from his office and had shown up. It had happened before too, with Fitz, who had had the bad idea of staying close-by and had heard her cry bloody-murder twice in one morning.

Tired of herself and her limitations, she had decided to go downstairs alone, but every noise and sudden flash of lights and colors were an attack to her self control so she hid in the gym. It was more relaxing, to be there alone, and Jemma tried some of the equipment there, before finding a few knives. She flipped them around and then one by one shot them at a target, almost smiling for a moment - almost, and then seeing Fitz at the door. She felt as if she had been caught stealing something. "Hey,” she forced herself to say, torn between going to retrieve the knives or pretending nothing had happened.
