Meet Tara Smith

Tara is the protagonist of the new series “School of Extraterrestrial Girls” by @jeremywhitley and @jamienoguchi

Tara though she was just an average kid with super strict parents trying to get through high school so she can live the life she wants. Until one really bad day she spontaneously combusted in the middle of class revealing that she wasn’t a normal kid at all...she wasn’t even human.

Tara is given the option of either being sent to the star system her people are from (where she’s never even been and didn’t know existed) or attending The School for Extraterrestrial Girls where she can learn to control her new abilities, find out about the larger universe, and become an ideal alien living on Earth. She, of course, opts for the second one and starts attending a secret school hidden deep in an underground bunker.

It’s not all bad though! Tara is finally learning to be herself, making friends, oh...and she may even have a bit of a crush on her new roommate, Misako.

Meet Summer Cortez, third roommate and protagonist of “The School for Extraterrestrial Girls” written by @jeremywhitley and illustrated by @jamienoguchi

Summer is extremely outgoing, kind, passionate and wears her heart on her sleeve. She wants to be friends with everyone - sometimes a little more enthusiastically than they’d prefer. She always sees the best in people and is constantly looking for ways to cheer up her friends and help them get along.

As with many things at the School for Extraterrestrial Girls, summer isn’t exactly what she seems. In her human form she’s a tall, girly, and muscular girl. In her natural form, she’s not exactly the first thing people think of when they think of beautiful. She’s a eldritch horror known only as a “Void Beast”. She’s bright pink in color and appears to be made of mostly tentacles. In both forms, she’s incredibly strong. But even that appearance can’t be trusted, as underneath the mass of frightening tentacles she’s really just a teenage girl trying to connect with others and make friends. And for all of her strength, she’s very easily emotionally hurt.

Meet Kat!

Ekaterina Kurillan (aka Kat) is one of the main characters from the series “The School for Extraterrestrial Girls” by @jeremywhitley and @jamienoguchi.

Kat is a large orange feline alien. She and her sister Zvenislava crash landed in Russia as kittens and were raised by the loving members of a small Siberian village. At first they believed them to be large kittens, but as time grew on, they began to grow to human size, but continued to be treated as part of the community until Russian authorities discovered their existence and they were forced to go to The School for Extraterrestrial Girls.

Kat loves lasagna, hates Mondays, and absolutely lives for drama. She taught herself English by watching old reruns of American sitcoms and teen soaps, so had a lot of expectations about what going to a private girls’ school would mean. She has done her level best to make those expectations a reality. 

She loves writing and cooking. She’s bad at personal space and staying out of other people’s business. She’s constantly at odds with her sister Zvenislava, who is annoyed with American culture and wants to go back home to Russia.

Meet Zvenislava!

Zvenislava Kurillan is one of the supporting characters in “The School for Extraterrestrial Girls” by @jeremywhitley and @jamienoguchi. She is the sister of Ekaterina “Kat” Kurillan and feels responsible for keeping her sister grounded.

Zvenislava and Kat were found when they crash landed as kittens in Siberia. They were taken in by a small Russian community and raised at first as kittens, until they kept growing and learning well beyond the normal levels of other felines, eventually becoming part of the community...that it until the Russian government discovered them and they were forced to go to the School for Extraterrestrial Girls.

Zvenislava is proud of being Russian and annoyed by her sister’s obsession with American pop culture. She has a fierce belief in communism and takes school very seriously. She has no time for the general drama of the school and is even annoyed when forced to partake in mandatory festivities like the end of semester carnival.

Meet Misako Sato!

Misako is one of the main characters of the series “The School for Extraterrestrial Girls” written by @jeremywhitley and illustrated by @jamienoguchi

Misako grew up as a foster kid in Washington  D.C. where she spent years getting in trouble and getting passed from one foster home to another. She learned how to take care of herself early and tries to look out for others, but doesn’t trust easily and almost never forgive.

Misako grew up thinking she was a normal boring kid, but sure she was supposed to be something special. One day a fight with her foster father caused her to lose her medical alert bracelet, which was secretly enchanted to hider her true form.

Misako is a faerie, not just from a different planet but from a completely different dimension. In her faerie form she has wings, bluish skin, pointy ears - the works. She’s also capable of doing magic, though she doesn’t have a spellbook to teach her and, as she’ll discover, her people and her dimension were destroyed years before she knew what she was. She very well might be the last of her kind. And if that wasn’t hard enough, her new friend Tara is one of the race of aliens who destroyed Misako’s home.
